Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, two of them involved in 2017 Burkapal and Bhejji attacks and carrying a total reward of INR 800,000 on their heads, surrendered in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on January 4, reports The Print. Madvi Budhra, Vetti Joga and Madvi Joga turned themselves in citing disappointment with the “inhuman” and “hollow” Maoist ideology, Sukma, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Sharma said, adding that they were also impressed by the state government’s rehabilitation policy and District Police’s ‘Puna Narkom (`new dawn’ in the Gondi language) campaign. Budhra, who carried a reward of INR 500,000, was Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangathan (DAKMS) ‘president’ and Kistaram Area Committee member of Maoist organization. Vetti, who carried a reward of INR 300,000 on his head was active as Kistaram Local Organisation Squad (LOS) ‘deputy commander’, SP said, adding that he was involved in the 2020 Minpa ambush and Tumirpad attack in which one trooper was killed. Madvi Joga was DAKMS ‘vice-president’ under the Palachalma Revolutionary People’s Committee as well as a member of the Naxalites’ platoon number 8, the SP said, adding that Joga was involved in the 2017 Burkapal attack, 2017 Bhejji attack and the Kasalpad attack in which 14 security personnel were killed.

Lekam Gujja and Madkam Hidiya turned themselves in after being impressed with the Government’s rehabilitation policy, Sukma, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Sharma said. Thirty-four cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) including four INR 100,000 rewardees have surrendered themselves in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on February 15, reports The Print. “Of the total, 33 Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] surrendered in a recently established camp in the Dubbamarka area located in the deeply forested regions of Sukma, the surrendered Naxals included Dirdo Muda, Hidma, and Vajaam Hidma who carried a reward of Rs one lakh on their heads. These Naxals who were earlier misled decided to abjure violence and return to the mainstream” CRPF said. The efforts of the 201 CoBRA [Commando Battalion for Resolute Action] Battalion of the CRPF persuade the surrender of another INR 100,000 rewardee Maoist, identified as Madvi Vaga, in Sukma. He was a ‘Jan militia’ (people's army of the Maoists), ‘commander’ and had joined the Naxalism in 2016 and was active in Chintalnar and Jagargunda region, said the force.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre carrying a cash reward of INR 800,000 on his head surrendered before security personnel in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on February 20, reports The Print. “Disappointed by the hollow ideology” of the banned outlawed organisation, the ultra, identified as Dirdo Mada surrendered, said Sukma, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Sharma. Dirdo, who was active in the banned organisation for the last 10-12 years, quit the path of violence by getting impressed by the policy of the Chhattisgarh Government and the District Police’s campaign ‘Puna Narkom’ (a term coined by the local Gondi dialect which means New Dawn), said the SP, adding that Dirdo was indulged in five major incidents that took place in the district between 2017 and 2022. One of the surrendered Maoists, Uika Lakhma, operated as ‘militia deputy commander’, while the others were active as members of the militia and Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (DAKMS), Krantikari Mahila Adivasi Sangthan (KAMS), and Chetna Natya Mandli (CNM), all frontal wings of Maoists, the SP said, adding that they were allegedly involved in executing Maoist activities, including putting up posters, spreading the banned outfit’s ideology, and doing recce, in Jagargunda Police Station area of the district.
