Nune Narasimha Reddy alias Ganganna, a key Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader and State Committee member, was reportedly arrested by special party Police teams at Old Guntur on January 17, reports The Hindu . Ganganna, who has been in judicial remand for the last one-and-a-half years in the District jail, was released on January 17. He is wanted in more than 10 cases registered in Guntur and Prakasam Districts. Ganganna is believed to have played a key role in talks with the Government during 2004.

Nation-wide bandh (shutdown strike) called by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) evoked good response in Visakhapatnam District while response was mixed in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Districts on March 24. Life in mandal (administrative unit) headquarters in the tribal areas was not affected in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Districts while in Visakhapatnam District shops and other commercial establishments remained closed and public and private vehicles stayed off the roads in most of the Maoist-dominated areas. Maoists had called for a Bharat Bandh (All India shutdown strike) demanding a halt to the Operation Green Hunt and release of a large number of people arrested on charges of being Maoists.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader, Tupakula Ramanjaneyamma alias Santhi, a leader of the Andhra-Orissa Border (AOB) carrying a head money of INR 500,000, was arrested near Kondramutla village in Ipur mandal (administrative unit) in the late hours of March 18 in Guntur District. She was later moved to Vinukonda town where she is being interrogated by the Police in connection with several cases. They were produced before a special court here which remanded them to 14-day custody. Padma is a member of Maoist party Nallamala division committee. Sources said Padma, four members of a family, all of whom are hardcore Maoists and two others were heading to the forests for a 'contact' with Chhattisgarh Maoist leaders along with courier Kiran. Police also recovered INR 40,000 from them. Athmakur Ramanaiah, wife Annapoorna, son Sunil and daughter Bujjamma were among the four other arrested Maoists belonging to the same family.

Sources said that the Maoists were armed and gathered at a house for a meeting. They were surrounded and with the Police party far outnumbering the Maoists the latter had to give in. The Maoists were produced at the press conference addressed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Visakha Range) Swati Lakra and Superintendent of Police (SP) G. Srinivasa Rao at Narsipatnam. All of them belong to Galikonda area committee. The 25 Maoists were arrested in a forest between Cheepurugondi and Erragonda in GK Veedhi mandal (administrative unit) in Vishakhapatnam District. Among them were two senior members of the party-Tambelu Lambangi and Pangi Bheemaraju. Along with them, 11 armed militia and eight ordinary militia members were arrested. Three .303 riffles, one SBLD riffle and INR 100, 000 in cash were recovered from them. The arrested persons were being sent to remand, the officers said. According to unconfirmed reports, 200 Policemen surrounded the place where the Maoists were holding a meeting on July 1, but two important leaders of the party-divisional committee members Jambri and Azad escaped the dragnet.

The Police arrested seven members of Chetna Natya Manch (CNM), a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cultural outfit, and two Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC) leaders from platform No 53 of Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station in Hyderabad city from Khammam District on July 16, reports The Times of India. The arrest was made when the CNM members reached the Bus Station and APCLC came to receive them. Police said the 18-member CNM team arrived in the city on the invitation of APCLC to perform cultural programmes for creating awareness among people about the recent encounter killings of civilians by anti-Maoist forces at Basaguda in Chhattisgarh. The CNM team comprised of seven men, six minor girls and five minor boys. The six minor girls and five minor boys of CNM who have also been taken into custody were sent to juvenile home and they will be handed over to the family members, Afzalgunj Inspector K Manoj Kumar said.

Police arrested five dalam (armed squad) members of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) during a combing operation in Chelamalla forest area of the Charla mandal (administrative unit) of Bhadrachalam division in Khammam District on August 3, reports Zee News. Two guns, ammunition and sharp weapons were also seized from them. After interrogation, it was revealed that the five Maoists worked in the Venkatapuram area committee and were members of the Sukhadev and Sunil dalams. The five were identified as M Nanda, M Bhimaiah, M Pojjaiah, M Lakshmi and S Jogaiah. They were involved in as many as 15 offences over the past few years, besides planning to ambush Police teams, a senior Police officer said. The Maoist dalam members had planned to hold meetings after mobilising people and indulge in violence in Chelamalla forest area on the direction of their leader Sukhadev and Sunita during the Maoists' 'Martyrs' Week', the officer said.

The alleged Naxals were identified as M Sreenu, Nageshwar Rao and Pittala Ilaiah (all from Warangal District). Police seized two Single Barrel Muzzle Loading (SBML) guns from them, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Y Sayesekhar said. The three were a part of armed squad under Gampala Raghupathi alias Mohananna alias Damodar, the officer said, adding that they extorted money from traders and farmers of Kothaguda area and handed it over to Raghupathi. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Parakala Surender Reddy, commenting on the arrest said the six were working for Eturnagaram-Mahadevpur Division Committee. The Division Committee Secretary, Bade Chokkarao alias Damodar, and Mekala Raju alias Rajkumar had ordered them to paste wall posters in their village. On November 4, the Maoist Division Committee Secretary visited Deekshakunta village and secretly met Bobbili Raju who is the area organizer for Maoists. He handed over wall posters, gelatine sticks and detonators to him. With the assistance of the sympathisers, Ponnam Raju, Karam Mahesh, Eeda Komuraiah, Pulla Raghu and Diddi Satyam, Raju pasted the posters at Bhupalpally cross roads on November 9. The police seized two motor cycles, two detonators, and two bundles of gelatine sticks from them.
