Army and Border Security Force (BSF) foiled two major infiltration attempts, on January 24, along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) killing a top Pakistani militant and arrested another while three other infiltrators managed to escape back to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) following effective retaliatory firing brought down by the troops on January 24, reports Daily Excelsior. Official sources stated that the troops observed movement of a group of four militants along LoC in Dadal Maneka area of Sunderbani sector in Rajouri District when they were trying to infiltrate into the Indian Territory along with a consignment of heavy arms, ammunition and explosive material. Immediately after the gunfight, troops conducted searches along LoC in Sunderbani sector and recovered the body of the slain militant who was believed to be a top Pakistani militant. “Arms, ammunition and explosives material recovered from the possession of militants as well as the weaponry with three militants, who fled back, indicated that the group of four militants was infiltrating into the Indian territory with plot to carry out major terror attack,” sources said, adding that the troops have thwarted game plan of the militants by eliminating one of them and forcing three others to retreat with their alertness.

A militant was killed by the Border security Force (BSF) during an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri District on February 20, reports The Times of India. Officials said the incident occurred around midnight when BSF troops deployed along the LoC fence in Keri sector of Rajouri detected some suspicious movement and a heavy exchange of fire ensued in which the militant was killed. During search the BSF party recovered the body of the militant along with an AK-47 rifle, six loaded magazines and a monocular night vision device from the Pakistan side. A black bag containing another loaded AK magazine, dry fruits and juice was also recovered. "It is understood that the remaining terrorists took advantage of the undulating hilly ground and jungle and retreated to their side. An infiltration bid was foiled by alert troops," the officials said. The identity of the militant is yet to be ascertained.

Indian Army launched yet another major offensive against Pakistani troops at Bhimber and Battal sectors along Line of Control (LoC) between twin border Districts of Poonch and Rajouri killing six Pakistani troopers and injuring five on June 1 afternoon, reports Daily Excelsior. This was third fierce retaliatory action undertaken by the Indian troops exactly during past one month. Some of the Pakistani posts and bunkers were also destroyed in retaliatory firing by the Indian troops, sources said, adding that mortar shelling and firing by the Pakistani troops stopped immediately after Indian forces undertook retaliatory action. Pakistan also claimed that their one civilian was killed in retaliatory firing by the Indian Army. Sources also said that major counter attack against the Pakistan army, which was undertaken this afternoon from Bhimber and Battal sectors of Rajouri and Poonch districts, was necessitated to decimate Pakistani posts, which were raining mortars on Indian civilian areas and were also preparing to facilitate infiltration attempts into the Indian territory.

India, on June 11, launched another major offensive against Pakistan after latter’s Army targeted defence locations and civilian areas along Line of Control (LoC) in three sectors in twin border Districts ofPoonch and Rajouri and also activated International Border (IB) in Ramgarh sector of Samba District, reports Daily Excelsior. At least nine posts and bunkers of Pakistan Army were destroyed opposite Krishna Ghati and Nowshera sectors in retaliatory fire by the troops while Pakistan claimed civilian casualties on their side.Official sources said that heavy mortar shelling and firing by Pakistan Army on the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch Districts, which began late June 10 night and continued till June 11 afternoon, was a clear indication that troops across the LoC were instructed to keep pot boiling on the LoC. However, they said, the Indian troops, who were anticipating misadventures by Pakistan following the visit of Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa to the LoC, retaliated Pakistan shelling and firing very effectively. According to sources, at least nine posts and bunkers of Pakistan army have been razed to ground across Krishna Ghati and Nowshera sectors in retaliatory firing by the Indian troops. Pakistan claimed civilian casualties, both fatal and non-fatal, on their side. Sources didn’t rule out fatalities on part of Pakistan army in destruction of their posts but there were no exact numbers.Significantly, Pakistan Army activated three major sectors along LoC including Krishna Ghati, Bhimber Gali and Nowshera in Rajouri and Poonch Districts on June 11, just a day after General Bajwa visited Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and some forward posts on the LoC, where he inter-acted with Field Commanders and jawans.

Pakistani troops on June 15 started heavy mortar shelling and firing in forward areas of Nowshera sector in Rajouri District, reports Daily Excelsior. The Indian side gave befitting response to the shelling and firing, leading to heavy exchanges that continued till late night. Baba Khori, Sher Makri, Number, Sher Shalak, Kharli and Jhanghar areas in Nowshera sector were the worst hit by Pakistan’s mortar shelling from 1.45 pm to 3.50 pm and from 5.30 pm onwards. However, no casualties or major damage had been reported on the Indian side. Nearly 20 forward villages came under intense shelling from Pakistan side with 120mm and 82mm mortars in Nowshera sector. The civilian population in shelling hit villages remained confined to their houses throughout the day as the panicstricken villagers feared that Pakistan could target them anytime. “This is probably the very rare occasion when Pakistan army was directly pounding the populated villages with heavy 120mm and 82mm rockets and firing with automatic weapons. However, so far, there has been no civilian casualties in the fresh round of firing by Pakistani troops in Nowshera sector,” sources said but added that Pakistan army was trying to kill the civilians by directly targeting the residential areas.

Pakistan army on August 30 resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of Rajouri District, targeting civilian areas, prompting the administration to close educational institutions falling within the firing range, reports Daily Excelsior. Official reports said Pakistan violated ceasefire by resorting to heavy mortar shelling and firing at Kalal, Kalsian, Bhawani and Anwas forward areas of Nowshera sector at 10.30 am. Pakistan was directly targeting the civilian population with mortar shells that led to panic among the border dwellers, who rushed to their houses or bunkers from the fields. Indian Army retaliated effectively to silence the Pakistani guns and save civilian population, which was being pounded with mortar shells and heavy firearms, sources said, adding that heavy exchanges between the two sides continued for more than two hours. However, there were no casualties or major damages on the Indian side in shelling and firing by the Pakistani troops. Pakistan might have suffered some casualties and damages in retaliatory firing by the Indian side but exact details were not available immediately.Meanwhile, the administration ordered closure of educational institutions in the areas, falling within the shelling and firing range, to avert any casualties as some time back, Pakistani troops had targeted educational institutions in the same sector, a result of which many students and teachers were trapped and had to be rescued in bullet-proof bunkers.
