The Telegraph reports that Security Forces on January 15 arrested five top cadres of National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) from Athibung area in Peren District of Nagaland. SFs recovered sophisticated arms and ammunition from them. The four cadres are still in the custody of Assam Rifles. Another NSCN-K cadre, identified as Isak Sumi, was also arrested along with the other four but was later released as he had an identity card issued by the Centre.

Security Forces (SFs) arrested two militants belonging to National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) from Signal Basti in Dimapur District on March 8. SFs also seized large quantity of “unaccounted arms and ammunition from their possession” which included one AK -56, 25 live rounds AK-56, one 0.22 mm air gun, 24 0.22 mm live round, one M 20, ten M 20 live round, 20 7.62 mm live round, 25 9 mm live round, 18 12 bore cartridge, one Chinese grenade, one telescopic sight, two mobile phones and four register containing collection details. SFs said the operation “once again” brought to limelight the gross violation of cease fire ground rules (CFGR) by cadres of various factions in Dimapur town.

A Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) tatar (Core member) was reportedly abducted by some militants, who were travelling in a car, somewhere from Naga Hospital colony Kohima in the afternoon of March 26 and he was found shot dead near a paddy field below Pfuchama village in Kohima District later in the day. The deceased was found blindfolded with hands tied from behind and shot in the head. One empty case of a small arm was also recovered from the incident site. The deceased had reportedly come out from the jail recently after he was arrested in connection with some case relating to illegal possession of arms. The father of the deceased, A. K. D. Angami, the former NSCN-K ‘chairman’ (for Angami region), was also killed in his own village on February 9, 2006.

The militants had set up a temporary hideout in the vicinity of a house belonging to one ‘Colonel’ Yaritiva Lotha of NSCN-IM, who is presently said to be residing at Hebron Camp. It was reported that the cadres were using the safehouse for transit and storing the weapons and ammunition for short duration meant for further supply to other parts of the State. AR cordoned the house and searched the area while the cadres panicked and attempted to flee. In the process, the fleeing cadres were arrested. AR in a statement said the operation incorporated humanitarian facets to act within existing cease fire ground rules, however “law breakers” were arrested to maintain peace in Nagaland.

According to a defence release, Longkhuh Konyak, was a yellow card holder which authorized him to carry one weapon with body guard for his personal protection. AR source said on June 17 in Kohima that the cadres have been identified as ‘Lieutenant’ Awok Konayk and his bodyguard, Honlem alias Alem Konyak. Both the individuals are residents of Chenwetnyu village in Mon District. During the operation, the Security Force had seized one pistol, one 12 bore rifles, several live rounds of various calibers, explosives and many other warlike stores. 3000 kg of rice was also recovered. The interrogation revealed that the recovered rice was actually meant for people from ‘Below Poverty Line’ which is being supplied to the State under Government scheme, the source added.

Three National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) militants were arrested by Security Forces (SFs) from the Chiephobozou Police Station area of Kohima District on December 23, reports Nagaland Post. The militants from “Chiemakhuma camp” were identified as ‘Second Lieutenant’ Apum, ‘Corporal’ Nali and ‘Lieutenant Corporal’ Fulu. One AK-56 rifle with one magazine and 29 live rounds, one sten-gun (MK-11) with two magazines and 30 live rounds and one pistol with magazine and six live rounds were recovered from the possession of the arrested militants.
