A combined team of the Dimapur District Police and India Reserve Battalion personnel arrested three persons during a search operation at Army Supply Road in the Signal Bosti area and recovered one locally made.22 pistol along with magazine from their possession in the evening of January 30, according to Nagaland Post. They were identified as Hoito Sema, Liakimong Yim and Taka Wati. They were arrested, when they were travelling in a vehicle along with the pistol. Police said that the locally made pistol, meant for sale, was brought by Liakimong Yim from Noklak under Tuensang District and was later handed over to Hoito Sema after reaching Dimapur.

Police arrested seven persons, including a National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) militant, for possessing arms and ammunition at Lotha colony area in Dimapur town on February 7, according to Assam Tribune. One M-20 pistol with seven rounds, a .9-mm pistol with four rounds, a .32 pistol with five rounds, three knives and seven cellular phones were recovered from their possession. While three of them were released on a personal recognizance bond, four others, including the NSCN-IM cadre, were booked under the Arms Act. The NSCN-IM cadre was from Manipur’s Chandel District and other three were from Agartala in Tripura, Muzaffarpur in Bihar and Tinsukia in Assam.

Two cadres of the Manipur based People’s United Liberation Front (PULF) outfit, identified as Abdul Latif and James Alias Thoungbe, were arrested by a combined team of the Dimapur District Police and India Reserve Battalion personnel from Notun Bosti area on February 17. Two cell phones, 32 live rounds of ammunitions of M20, one AK 47 Sling, a memory card and a vehicle were recovered from Latif’s residence. In a separate search operation, four Chinese hand grenades were recovered from the residence of a woman, Rosemary Diswang, at Haralu colony area in Dimapur. She was planning to supply the grenades to Latif for INR 40,000.

One AK-47, some ammunition and documents belonging to the group were recovered from their possession. Police said Gokul Giri Nepali had supplied about 300 AK-47 rifles and large quantity of live ammunition and explosives while Somarjit Hashu had gone to collect some consignment from Gokul’s house. The duo confessed during interrogation that two AK-47 rifles along with 233 live rounds of AK 47, which were smuggled from Myanmar, were passed on to a militant group two days back. According to Police, the duo also revealed that the BW was commanded by one ‘Lieutenant Colonel’ James and was active in the entire Northeast, especially in Assam.

They were identified as Chandra Singh alias Sanjib alias Shankar, Inao Singh alias Raju Singh and Pranjit Singh. Inao Singh was reportedly a new recruit of the outfit. Police officials said three, working under ‘commander’ Chandra Singh, were involved in collecting ‘taxes’ at the rate of INR 10000 each in the name of the outfit from Manipur-bound trucks. So far they had collected INR 10000 each from more than 60 trucks. Chandra Singh confessed that he has been in charge of the Dimapur Town Command for the more than two months. The three militants also disclosed that they had extorted INR 10000 from a truck on August 7.

While 10 militants, including one female cadre, were arrested from one hideout, four others were arrested from another place. Police recovered eight mobile handset, one 7.65 pistol with five rounds, one .9-mm pistol with eight live rounds and some documents from their possession. Police said the 14 cadres arrested were part of the same gang, which had earlier abducted three drivers belonging to Manipur branch of the Food Corporation of India. While two drivers were released after they reportedly paid INR.8000 to the abductors, the other driver, identified as Asem Angou (51), a resident of Lambia Challou in Imphal East District, who was kept in confinement due to non-payment of ransom, was rescued by the Police on November 6.
