A combined force of the Imphal West District Police and Assam Rifles on January 9 arrested two People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) cadres, who were involved in the January 6 bomb attack at the residence of Manipur Opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam at Thangmeiband. They were identified as Moirangthem Monao alias Parimacha alias Mohen alias Sana (26) and Laikhuram Munal Singh alias Santahoi (24). One loaded 9-mm pistol, one magazine of AK-47 rifles with three live rounds and one two wheeler vehicle and one cellular phone were recovered from their possession. They reveled during their interrogation that they were operating under one R.K. Jemson alias Rozar alias Ramananda alias Nongpoknagnba (32) of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda. They confessed their involvement in the killing of one non local sugar juice vendor at Kwakeithel Bazar on March 1, 2009, killing of one non local barber at Sagolband Khumbong Mayum, lobbying of hand grenade at computer shop at Lamphel Sanakiethel, setting ablaze of Ujala Restaurant at Kwakethel, setting ablaze of Joychandra Garden at Langol and extortions of money from various shops and restaurants and saw mills and other business establishments in the Imphal areas. They also disclosed that the recent serial killings of non locals in the State were the handiwork of the PREPAK, People's Liberation Army (PLA), United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) as per a ‘decision’ taken at the top level to destabilise the present Manipur Government.

Imphal Free Press reports that a combined force of the Imphal West District Police and Assam Rifles arrested two People's Liberation Army (PLA) cadres along with one sympathizer during a search operation at Mayang Langjing under Lamshang Police Station on January 12. They were identified as Thamongjam Samsan Singh (40), Huidrom Bhogen alias Chingkhei (28) and Khuraijam Basanta Singh alias Kakabasan (45). Khuraijam Basanta was a harbourer cum money collector of the outfit. One AK-56 Assault Rifles with magazine and 30 live rounds of AK ammunitions, one M-16 Assault Rifles with two magazines and 100 ammunitions of M-16 Rilfes and two mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

Militants placed a bomb at the residence of Moirangthem Dolen Singh (53), Upper Division Clerk (UDC) of the Manipur Irrigation and Flood Control Department’s Dolaithabi project, at Hiyangthang Maning Leikai in Imphal West District. The bomb failed to explode and was defused by the Police. Police also recovered a note inside the bomb warning the UDC to pay the amount at the earliest failing which stern action would taken against him or his family members. Moirangthem said that he received demands note of INR 500, 000 from the Military Council faction of the UKLA and revealed that he would not be able to meet the demand with his mere salaries.

They were identified as Khuraijam Bobby Singh alias B.K. alias Ito (30), Ngongmaithem Angouba alias Karnajit Singh (23) and Ahongshangbam Gulapi Khuman (28). Four live rounds of 9-mm ammunitions and two cellular phones were recovered from their possession. Boby disclosed that he joined the outfit in 2008 under one Irei of the General Secretary faction of the PREPAK and got basic training at Moreh in Chandel District and he was also earlier arrested by the Police and rejoined the outfit under Sana alias Loya of the ‘finance section’ of the outfit. Two 9-mm pistols along with two magazines having two live rounds, one Chinese hand grenade without detonator and two demand letters of the group were recovered from his possession. He disclosed that he was earlier a cadre of the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and again he joined the Lamyanba Khuman group of Military Council faction of KCP through one woman Sagolsem O. The hand grenade which was found already triggered was removed by the Imphal West District Police. Laiphrakpam Babuchand Singh (42), the owner of the steel industry disclosed that there have been continuous threats to him for monetary demands from the cadres of the faction since July 23. He further said that a 30 year old unidentified woman came to the showroom of the industry pretending to be a customer but left a piece of paper and a hand-grenade apart from taking mobile telephone number of the manager. The paper was later found out to be a demand note of the KCP. He further disclosed that there has been continuous threat from unknown callers and they even threatened to close down the steel industry if it fails to meet the monetary demand. The shop remained closed since July 24.

According to an official source, the joint team seized 20 Chinese made Hand Grenades and 69 live ammunition of AK rifles, concealed inside a tin fish can, from the possession of two over ground workers belonging to the Khaba faction of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). The arrestees were identified as Nongthombam Jiten (42) and his wife N. Bijenti alias Inaocha (42), presently staying at a rented in Sanakeithel. The duo disclosed that the can was handed to them on mid week of October by one Ibungo belonging to Khaba faction of KCP. The number of AK ammunition was 119 at that time. 15 days after they were handed with the items, some youths came and collected about 50 live ammunition of AK rifles.

Security Forces (SFs) arrested one National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) cadre from Lamsang Taothong Khunou in Imphal West District on December 20. Six militants, including a couple, of different banned outfits have been arrested since December 26 in separate search operations in Manipur, the Police said on December 27, reports Shillong Times. Three militants belonging to the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were arrested by Police commandos from Uripok, Lamlong and Laphupat tera in Imphal West and Bishenpur Districts. Three militants belonging to the Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Task Force (KCP-MTF) were arrested from Langthabal area. According to Police sources, one 9mm pistol and some ammunitions were seized from the possession of the PREPAK militants.
