The security forces arrested a cadre of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and one People’s United Liberation Front (PULF) militant from different locations. The PLA militant, identified as Arubam Deven alias Sanaton, was arrested during a search operation at Heibongpokpi Mayai Leikai by the commandos of Imphal West. Preliminary interrogation revealed that he joined the outfit in 1996 under one slain ‘sergeant’ Benon of PLA and was now working in the finance section under one Sunil of the PLA. A ‘sergeant’ of PULF (Azad faction), identified as Mohammed Ebomcha, was arrested with a 9-mm pistol having five live rounds on March 14.

The police recovered an AK-47 rifle with nine rounds of ammunition and a pistol from their possession. The DGP stated that Robert was a "corporal" in the KYKL ranks, but had never been arrested. An arrested KYKL cadre, Laishram Homen alias Korou, is suspected to be one of those who planned the selective killings. The DGP also said the police were on the trail of four more KYKL members who killed five migrants in Imphal East district the day after the Heiyen Hangool attack. While 16 other militants managed to escape, one 9-mm pistol, camouflage uniforms, jungle boots, hats, caps, utensils, and gun pouches were recovered from the hideout. Two women sympathisers, identified as Sanjenbam Indira and her younger sister Pratima, were also arrested while they were sharing information with the escaped cadres of the outfit. The report added that Tayep was abducted by the KCP militants on May 22 and was later tortured for allegedly smuggling drugs.
