The January 29 attack fatality along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border increased to 11 after the recovery of a dead body of a person identified as Lasu Mardi (65) from Chauldhua in Borgang in Sonitpur District on February 2, reports The Telegraph. Earlier, ten persons were killed and eight others received bullet injuries when encroachers from Arunachal Pradesh opened fire with hand-made weapons in the Behali Reserve Forest area of Sonitpur District on January 29. In addition, the economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh for the Behali Reserve Forest killings continued and the protesters blocked the passage of goods trucks at Chariduar in Sonitpur District, reports The Telegraph.

The economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh by Assam based organisations entered its fifth day on February 3, reports The Telegraph. The protesters blocked trucks at Borgang and Chariduar areas in Sonitpur District. Earlier, ten persons were killed and eight others received bullet injuries when encroachers from Arunachal Pradesh opened fire with hand-made weapons in the Behali [called Tarasso in Arunachal Pradesh] Reserve Forest area of Sonitpur District on January 29. The blockade has badly affected Itanagar (Capital of Arunachal Pradesh) and the East Siang, Upper Siang and West Siang Districts, adds Times of India.

The blockade of roads leading to Arunachal Pradesh, launched to protest the killings in Behali of Sonitpur District, entered the sixth day on February 4, reports The Telegraph. Assam Home Secretary G.D. Tripathi told that though the blockade continues, some vehicles carrying fuel and other essential items crossed into Arunachal Pradesh with police escort. He said efforts are being made to persuade the protesters to lift the blockade. “The deputy commissioner of Sonitpur and other authorities have been asked to take all necessary steps to clear the blockade,” he said. Several organisations, including Arunachal Agrasan Patirudh Samitee, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Assam Jatiya Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) and All Koch-Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU), have jointly imposed the blockade. The blockade has affected supplies to several parts of East Kameng, West Kameng and Tawang Districts of Arunachal Pradesh. According to reports from Seppa, the District headquarters of East Kameng District, there is shortage of fuel and other essential commodities.

Earlier, on January 31, 2013 suspected Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) militants had abducted two buisneesman, Dhiman Choudhary alias Dhiman Lindo (30) [Karbi Anglong based] and Sudip Chanda (36), from Zerikingding area under the Zerikingding Police Station in Karbi Anglong District. KPLT ‘publicity secretary’, Nokmey Tungjang has, however, informed that the group was not involved with abduction of the duo.

The blockade was later reduced to six hours after the ABSU received a formal invitation from the Central Government for the third round of tripartite talks on February 21. Apart from the ABSU, leaders of allied organisations like the Pro-Talks faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-PTF), Bodoland People’s Progressive Front (BPPF), United Democratic People’s Front (UDPF), People’s Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) also took part in the blockade.

The Sentinel reports that on October 22, a villager, identified as Deuri Hanse, was killed by suspected Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers (KPLT) at Langthu Rongphar village in Karbi Anglong District. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Diphu, Bolin Deuri stated that KPLT militants were behind the killing. The Telegraph further adds that villagers suspect that the militant outfit killed the villager on suspicion of being a police informer. The incident happened during the start of the 48-hour Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao bandh (shutdown) called by KPLT in protest against the killing of the two militants. Earlier on October 20, two KPLT militants were killed in an encounter at Langlaksho in the Karbi Anglong District.
