Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on August 10 arrested six suicide attackers who were planning to carry out subversive activities in Dhaka city, reports The Daily Star. Among the six, five are from Jama'atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) and one from Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). The five JMB militants are Jahid Anwar alias Porag (22), Tajul Islam alias Tajul (29), Jahid Hasan alias Main (21), Jiyabul Hoque (24) and Nayan Hossain (21). The ABT militant was Mostafizur Rahman alias Sifat (27). RAB recovered nine improvised explosive devices, five hand grenades, 13 detonators, two pistols, some machetes and knives and bomb-making materials from the arrestees.

Joint Security Force led by Army brought to end an unprecedented hostage situation rescuing 13 people who include Indian and Japanese citizens almost 12 hours after gunmen stormed the popular restaurant. Around 53 people, including several Policemen, were injured in an exchange of gunfire between Police and gunmen who stormed a Spanish restaurant on July 1 night and took the people inside hostage. One militant was arrested in the incident. According to US-based SITE Intelligence Group, Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility of the attack. The deceased Police officers are Rabiul Islam, Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch of Police and Salahuddin Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge Banani Police Station. Joint Security Force recovered 20 bodies during a search on the compound of the Spanish restaurant. Most of the victims were killed brutally with sharp weapons. Seven crude bombs, four machetes and a computer were recovered from them. In Dinajpur District, Police also arrested five ICS cadres from a mess at Ramnagar while they were holding a secret meeting at the mess. In Rangpur District, two JeI activists Abul Basar Md Abdur Rahim (45) and Mohamad Nuruzzaman (65) accused in arson cases were arrested from their houses. Police said they are suspecting the same group– that threw away a cache of arms last week– might have dropped the transceivers and other explosive substances in the water in the wake of recent ‘block-raids.’ The gel and the chips are used to make improvised explosive devices, Police said. One of the killed was identified as Biplab Kumar Bepari alias Bipul (28), son of Abdul Pramanik from Bil Shalangi village and the other was Moyen Uddin (27), son of Motaleb Hossain from Paiksha village under Ataikula of Santhia upazila in the District, RAB said. On a tipoff that members of the outlawed party were holding a secret meeting near Goyeshbari Government Primary School, a RAB team was sent there, Commander of RAB 12, Bina Rani Das, said. In the ensuing shootout two were found dead while their associates escaped, RAB said. The weapons were found in the possession of the dead, said Bina, adding that two members of RAB were slightly injured in the operation. According to RAB, the two killed were wanted for the murder of Shajahan Ali Master, a local Awami League (AL) leader, and each was accused in over a dozen cases filed with Ataikula Police Station.

RAB identified him as Nazmul Haque alias Abdur Rahman. Sensing RAB's presence, Nazmul cut the window grills of his rented flat on the fourth floor and jumped off and badly injured. He was caught and admitted to Savar's Enam Medical College Hospital under RAB's custody. He died there later.
