Meanwhile, five persons were injured during JeI-ICS cadres’ countrywide hartal (strike) on September 21, protesting the Supreme Court (SC) judgment that sentenced its leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee to imprisonment until death for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971, reports The Daily Star. In Kishoreganj District, four children were injured, as an abandoned crude bomb exploded at Panchabati village. The victims are identified as Ridoy Mia (9), Marufa Begum (7), Surma Begum (7) and Aros Mia (2). In Dhaka city, a pedestrian was injured as a crude bomb went off on Nurjahan Road. Four JeI-ICS cadres were arrested on suspicion of plotting to carry out destructive activities. Police also arrested 27 cadres in Satkhira, 15 in Jhenidah, five in Bagerhat and three in Bogra Districts, as they attacked law enforcers from processions.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Ashfaq Ahmed, duty officer of Mohammadpur Police Station, said a group of Hizbut activists brought out procession in Iqbal Road area after Jumma prayers, demanding arrest of sacked Post, Telecommunications and ICT Minister Latif Siddiqui. A Police team rushed to the spot and tried to round up the activists of the banned Islamist outfit, when Hizbut activists also hurled several crude bomb targeting the Police, said SI Ahmed. At one stage, Police was compelled to fire on the procession to bring the situation under control, leaving one Hizbut activist bullet injured, the SI added. The injured was identified as Nasir Ahmed (27), son of Abdus Salam, and a resident of Mohammaddi Housing area in Mohammadpur.

Protesting the capital punishment of its chief, JeI and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) cadres went on the rampage across the country on October 29, reports The Independent. In Chapainawabganj District, 20 people including two Policemen were injured when JeI-ICS cadres clashed with Police at Shibganj bazar area. In Bogra District, Police arrested 16 JeI-ICS cadres for bringing out processions at different places protesting against the verdict. In Satkhira District, Police arrested 13 leaders and cadres of JeI-ICS for bringing out procession at the Kalibari intersection. In Dhaka city, Police arrested seven JeI-ICS cadres while they tried to bring out processions at Gulshan, Mugda, Moghbazar, Motijheel, Uttara and Mirpur areas. JeI has called for strike on October 30 , November 2 and November 3.
