One of the six incidents took place at the Central Shaheed Minar in which four activists of Jubo League, the youth wing of the ruling Awami League (AL). Rickshaw-puller Mohammad Samiul (45) was injured near Viqarunnisa Noon School at Azimpur while passing by with a passenger. In another incident in the same area, Mahfuza Begum (30), received wounds in the forehead while she and her daughter were about to get on a rickshaw. Meanwhile, Maria Akter Nipa (24) was injured in the left leg when a crude bomb blasted near a local school in Suritola. Abdul Jabbar (40) received splinter wounds below his knees in Tantibazar. Separately, a suspected bomber, Kawsar Khan was injured when Police shot for blasting crude bombs at Amtoli in Shahjahanpur area. Police said they fired three shots at Kawsar when he was fleeing the area after exploding two crude bombs. Kawsar received bullets in his legs. In Gazipur District, pickets firebombed a passenger bus in Noujani area burning at least five including a child. The victims are Rakib (12), Mohammad Sabuj (20), Kamrul Hasan (28), Jahangir Hossain (42) and Mariam Akter Rupa (7). In Chittagong District, two rickshaw pullers were injured as suspected blockade supporters blasted crude bombs. In drives against the violence that has been plaguing the country for a month now, law enforcers arrested 34 people in Satkhira District and three Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) activists in Bogra District.

20 persons were injured during the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led 20-party alliance's countrywide blockade on March 17, reports The Daily Star. In Jamalpur District, 10 people were injured when a chase and counter-chase took place between some Awami League (AL) and BNP activists in Aramnagar Bazar. In Kurigram District, eight people including three Policemen were injured a clash between Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI)-Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) cadres and Police in Bhogdanga. In another incident, Police arrested 16 women cadres of JeI-ICS at a house in Rowmari sub-District on suspicion of planning sabotage attacks. In Moulvibazar District, a conductor and a helper suffered burn injuries while asleep in their bus as blockaders set it alight in Barlekha sub-District. In Khulna District, Police arrested 35 ICS cadres near Deana South Para High School in Daulatpur of Khulna city and recovered desktop computers, laptops, cameras, and mobile phones from their possession.

In Dhaka city, Matin (25), Rawshan Ali (36) and Shakil Ahmed (32), all day laborers died from burn injuries in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). They were injured when blockaders threw two petrol bombs at a truck returning to Malikgram village from Magura town in Magura District after offloading sand on March 21. Nine others suffered severe burn injuries in the petrol bomb attack. Separately, truck owner Khandakar Sharif Uddin (40), who suffered burn injuries in a firebomb attack in Chandpur District on March 19, died at DMCH. Sharif suffered 88 percent burns, as blockaders hurled a petrol bomb at the vehicle on the way in Chandpur District. In another incident, Yusuf Khan (60), a truck driver who fought for the country's independence in his youth, lost his battle for life at DMCH, a day after he suffered burn injuries in a petrol bomb attack in Daganbhuiyan of Feni District. Unlike the previous general strikes called by JeI protesting at the war crimes verdicts against the party leaders, the hartal saw no violence. No street agitation, picketing and processions were seen in Dhaka city during the hartal while a few numbers of abrupt processions were reported from other parts of the country. All modes of vehicles plied normally on the capital’s streets. Rail and waterways communications were normal. Businesses and educational institutions ran normally in the capital and other major cities. Public and private offices worked as usual.

Traffic movements in major cities were almost normal although presence of cars in the streets was thin and long route buses operated less in number because of shortage of passengers during the general strike. Railway, waterway and airway communications were normal and offices and businesses operated normally, while most of the shops, shopping malls and educational institutions remained open during the hartal hours. Banks transactions were almost normal, although many of them were seen to operate keeping main entrances closed.
