In Bogra District, 20 blockaders were injured in a clash with Police at Hukum Ali Bus Stand in Dhunat. In Narayanganj District, five BNP men were injured in a clash with Police. In Chandpur District, five blockaders were injured as they clashed with Police at Ramchandrapur of Hajiganj. In Dhaka city, four people were injured. Three people received burns after pickets set fire to their vehicles in two incidents. Meanwhile, general secretary of BNP's Ward 3 unit Giasuddin received shotgun pellets in his thighs as Police opened fire on blockaders in Kadamtoli area. In Feni District, executive magistrate Abdul Quader (35) was injured when blockaders exploded a crude bomb on his microbus on Shaheed Shahidullah Kaisar Road when he was patrolling streets to contain picketing.

In Rangpur District, Altaf (45), a headmaster of Government Primary School died of his injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. In Chandpur District, 10 people were injured in a clash between Awami League (AL) and BNP activists at Ramchandrapur Bazar. In Sirajganj District, 10 BNP men were injured during their clash with Police in Dhanbandhi area. In Chapainawabganj District, three people, including one Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personal, were injured when blockaders exploded handmade bombs at a truck convoy in Kansat. In Moulvibazar District, two people received burn injuries when blockaders set fire to a bus at Kowla area in Kulaura. In Dhaka city, two persons were injured. Shafiqul Alam (35) sustained burn injuries when blockaders exploded a petrol bomb on a bus at Kalshi. In another incident at Chhuritola area, rickshaw puller Motaleb (28) was injured in a crude bomb attack. Seven people were killed and many others were injured during the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led 20-party alliance's countrywide nonstop blockade on January 14, reports The Daily Star. In Rangpur District, five people, including a child, were burnt to death and 15 others were injured as alleged blockaders hurled a petrol bomb at Mithapukur sub-District in Rangpur District. Earlier, it was reported that four people, including a child, were burnt to death and 10 others suffered injuries. In Chittagong District, Muhamad Jubayer (21), a cadre of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), was crushed to death by a truck which they allegedly tried to torch on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Highway in Lohagara. Two other ICS cadres were also injured. In Feni District, Belal Hossain (24), an activist of Jubo League, the youth wing of the ruling Awami League (AL) was beaten to death allegedly by pro-blockade pickets in Sonagazi. In Dhaka city, seven people, including a Police constable and two Ansar members, were injured in crude bomb attacks. In Gazipur District, bus helper Tofazzal Hossain (17) was burnt to death while he was asleep inside the bus at Mohishbathan Bot Tola on Dhaka-Tangail Highway. In Dhaka city, private car driver Abul Kalam (26), who suffered 33 percent burns in a petrol bomb attack at Moghbazar died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). In Moulvibazar District, 20 people, including three Policemen, were injured in a clash between Police and BNP activists on Saifur Rahman road. In Habiganj District, three persons, who were on a motorbike, suffered burn injuries as alleged blockaders threw a crude bomb at them. In Natore District, pro-blockade pickets torched a Rajshahi-bound cement-laden truck and looted money from its driver in Ahammadpur area. Both the driver and helper were injured.

The victim, Nuruzzaman Jonny, was general secretary of Khilgaon unit JCD. Police said that Jonny was accused in an arson case. The deceased were identified as Nuruzzaman Poplu, Mysha Tasnim, Abu Taher, Abu Yusuf, Asma Begum, Shanto and Mohammad Wasim. Doctors fear the death toll may rise, as three of the six patients under treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital were in a critical condition. In Dhaka city, two youths were killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Jatrabari area. The identities of the youths, aged between 25 and 30, could not be confirmed. RAB officials said that when a team of RAB was patrolling in Jatrabari area all of a sudden, brick chunks were hurled at the RAB vehicle. Several crude bombs went off on the road and gun shots were fired at the team, forcing the law enforcers to open fire on the thugs. Later, RAB found two bullet-hit people lying in a pool of blood there. One gun, two petrol bombs and eight crude bombs were recovered from the spot. In another incident, Rashedul (25), who had suffered 80 percent burn injuries on February 3 gruesome firebomb attack on a bus in Comilla District died at the Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Separately, a suspected bomber, Kawsar Khan was injured when Police shot for blasting crude bombs at Amtoli in Shahjahanpur area. Police said they fired three shots at Kawsar when he was fleeing the area after exploding two crude bombs. Kawsar received bullets in his legs. In Gazipur District, pickets firebombed a passenger bus in Noujani area burning at least five including a child. The BNP-led 20-party alliance on April 20 announced a countrywide daylong hartal (shut down) for April 22 protesting the attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade, reports The Daily Star. BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed announced the programme at an urgent press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka city hours after the attack. Moudud added that the attack was carried out as part of Government’s plan to assassinate the BNP chief and it is the reflection of the Government’s fascist attitude.

The countrywide hartal (general strike) called by Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) protesting at the Supreme Court verdict that upheld the death penalty of war criminal JeI Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed was ignored largely across the country on November 19, reports New Age. Unlike the previous general strikes called by JeI protesting at the war crimes verdicts against the party leaders, the hartal saw no violence. No street agitation, picketing and processions were seen in Dhaka city during the hartal while a few numbers of abrupt processions were reported from other parts of the country. All modes of vehicles plied normally on the capital’s streets. Rail and waterways communications were normal. Businesses and educational institutions ran normally in the capital and other major cities. Public and private offices worked as usual.
