The arrested militant identified as self-styled (ss) ‘sergeant’ Anong Singpho alias Nongpion was apprehended in a search operation, reports Arunachal Times. One 9 mm pistol, six rounds of 9 mm ammunition, three rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade, cloth smeared raw opium (weighing approximately 370 grams), three mobiles phones, INR 1,000, and other incriminating documents were recovered from the arrestee.

In a statement, Assam Police on May 11 has claimed that the grenade blast which took the life of a 12-year-old boy was an “unfortunate accidental blast”, reports The Indian Express. Further clarifying, Tinsukia Superintendent of Police (SP) Vaibhav Nimbalkar, though a case under Explosive Substances Act was registered under the Lekhapani Police Station (PS), but preliminary investigations reveal that “grenade may have been dropped mistakenly by Security Forces (SF) during routine movement in the area.” Due to the incident site being a sensitive area, the SF frequents the area and may have dropped the grenade by mistake. Earlier South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) reported on May 12 that a 12-year-old boy identified as Suraj Hajong was killed in a grenade explosion under Lekhapani Police Station (PS) in Jagun of Margherita subdivision in Tinsukia District of Assam.

The deceased child identified as Suraj Hajong was going for a swim near Buridihing River with his brother Suman Hajong when the explosion occurred. Further investigation is going on.
