In the same district, insurgents detonated another land mine at Chuchchebariat Machhyang VDC in the Chuchchebari area. However no casualty was reported in the blast.

The Himalayan Times quoting the Maoist ‘Seti-Mahakali Regional Autonomous Government’ spokesperson and Chief of the ‘People’s Government of Achham’, Sharad Singh Bhandari, stated that the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) has lost about 1,500 fighters, cadres and party members in 10 districts under Seti-Mahakali Bureau since the beginning of the ‘People’s War’. Further he said that around 400 insurgents in Kalikot, 350 in Kailali, 270 in Kanchanpur, 76 in Doti, 80 in Dadeldhura and Achham, 86 in Bajura, 55 in Baitadi, 50 in Mahakali and 45 in Bajhang districts were killed in the security force operations. During this period, Maoists also lost numerous high-profile leaders, including Regional Bureau member Jaya Raj Bhatta alias Binay on May 16, 2002 and Nep Bahadur KC of the 'Lisnegram 1st Brigade' on May 12, 2004.

The Himalayan Times reports that a group of suspected Maoists abducted 500 civilians, including children, women and elderly people, from nine VDC areas of Panchathar district during August 3 and 4. Also, the Maoists have reportedly abducted eight people from Ramechhap and one from Dailekh districts. Another report said that in Gaighat district, Maoists have collected around two million rupees from local businessmen, civil servants and civilians since August 3 and that they aim to collect a sum of 10 million rupees within a year. Maoists are also reportedly collecting funds from Non-Governmental Organisations, especially those supported by UNICEF, who have been instructed to pay a minimum of Rupees 50,000.

Separately, on August 15, the Maoist-affiliated students organization, All Nepal National Independent Students Union - Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), has warned that it would call an educational strike from next week if the Government failed to meet its demand soon. The Peace Committee headed by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will have two departments – the Advisory and Corporation Subcommittee and the Peace Secretariat. According to Nepal News, the Advisory and Cooperation Subcommittee, to be manned with representatives of the civil society, legal experts and defence and foreign relation experts, will be suggesting the know-how of the peace process while the Peace Secretariat, headed by the Government’s chief secretary, will be dealing mainly in administrative aspects. Other members of the high-level Peace Committee, formed a few weeks ago to initiate steps for peace talks with the Maoist insurgents, includes CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, Rashtriya Prajatantra Party chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana, Communication Minister Mohsin and Nepal Sadbhawana Party chairman Badri Prasad Mandal.
