India, on November 3, reiterated its concern over certain forces planning a so-called ‘referendum’ in Canada on their demand for Khalistan and called upon that country to prevent anti-India activities by individuals and groups based there, reports The Indian Express. India also urged Canada to designate as terrorists under its laws those individuals and entities who have been declared as terrorists under Indian laws. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi replying on the issue of the so-called Khalistan referendum in Canada, said, “I think we have made our position clear a couple of times. Our position on the efforts by anti-India elements to hold a so-called Khalistan referendum is well known. It has been conveyed to the Canadian government both in New Delhi and in Canada.” The government of Canada has conveyed that it respects India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and will not recognise the so-called referendum, which is to take place in two parts in Canada, Bagchi said, adding, “The Canadian high commissioner here and their deputy foreign minister reiterated this perspective earlier this week in separate statements. However, let me also reiterate what we said earlier, which is that we find it deeply objectionable that politically-motivated exercises by extremist elements are allowed to take place in a friendly country, and you are all aware of the history of violence in this regard.” Bagchi further said, “We will continue to press the government of Canada in this matter. We call upon them to prevent anti-India activities by individuals and groups based in their country, and to designate as terrorists under their laws the individuals and entities who have been declared as terrorists under our laws.” The Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) has proposed the so-called ‘referendum’ in Mississauga, near Toronto, on November 6. The first such exercise was held at Brampton on September 18.

Suri headed Shiv Sena (Taksali) and was often in news for his inflammatory remarks, and was given Police security, who were with him when the attack took place. Soon after the incident, the attacker identified as Sandeep Singh alias Sunny, who shot multiple bullets into Suri using his licensed weapon, was arrested. Sandeep was in the crowd that surrounded Suri and fellow protesters, when he shot the leader and ran into a nearby house for cover.

A special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sent Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) terrorist Kulwinderjit Singh alias Khanpuria – who was allegedly involved in attacks on establishments connected to the Dera Sacha Sauda and Punjab Police, to three-day custody on November 26, reports Hindustan Times. The NIA sought his custody to probe a case registered against him at the Rajasansi Police Station in Amritsar after a bag with two hand grenades and a mobile phone was recovered from two bike-borne men at a check post in Amritsar in 2019. The duo had managed to escape after dodging police personnel, but Khanpuria was nominated in the FIR. The NIA had arrested Khanpuria, who had a INR 500,000 reward on his head, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on November 18, three years after the Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice against him. He was arrested upon his arrival from Bangkok. NIA officials had sought a 10-day remand of the accused, but were only granted three-day custody. Two Pakistan-based intruders rushed back to safety after Border Security Force (BSF) personnel fired upon them near the Paharipur Border Out Post (BoP) near the International Border (IB) in Bamiyal in Pathankot City of Punjab on November 26, reports The Tribune. “We fired seven rounds. They could have been hunting migratory birds. On several earlier occasions, ornithologists have come near the International Border (IB) but return when challenged. Last night, a thick blanket of fog had enveloped the area. We got suspicious because normally militants take advantage of adverse weather conditions to sneak into Indian territory,” said a BSF officer.
