Over 12,000 people from all forward villages falling between Pallanwalla and Khour sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Akhnoor tehsil (revenue unit) of Jammu District, migrated to safer locations this morning (October 1) following heavy mortar shelling and firing by the Pakistan Army, reports Daily Excelsior. The border dwellers from over dozen forward villages including Pallanwalla started migration after Pakistan army resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing at Channi Dewano, Darkoot, Palatan, and surrounding villages of the District. Official reports said Pakistan Army initially resorted to firing with automatic weapons and later fired 82 mm mortar shells targeting forward posts of the Army and civilian areas. The Indian side retaliated and the exchange of fire ceased at 7.30 am the next day (October 2). On the intervening night of September 29 and 30 also, Pakistan had violated ceasefire in Pallanwalla sector in the District. The forward villages from where the migration took place included Pallanwalla, Hamirpur, Gigriyal, Kudwal, Gararh, Sainth, Panjtoot, Palatan, Bardoh and Pakhar apart from their surroundings. However, according to reports, no casualties, (fatal or non-fatal), was reported from the Indian side during heavy shelling and firing. Also, there was no major damage to houses or cattle shed of the people. In several other border villages, the people continued to take shelter in safer areas including houses of their relatives or the Government accommodation identified for them by the civil administration.

Pakistan rangers again violated ceasefire along the IB in the RS Pura sector of Jammu District by resorting to small arms fire on October 21, reports Times of India. "Small arms bursts are being fired by Pakistan Rangers in Abdullian village in the Suchetgarh sector in RS Pura," Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh said. The latest ceasefire violations came hours after the BSF killed seven Pakistan Rangers and one terrorist in the retaliatory fire in the Kathua sector on the IB. The Indian border guarding force launched an aggressive offensive against the Pakistani firing, BSF said in a release, adding seven Rangers and a terrorist were shot dead in the retaliatory firing. With this, the number of ceasefire violations along the IB and the Line of Control (LoC) in the state after surgical strikes by the Indian Army in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) has risen to 31. Pakistani troops had heavily shelled areas in Bhimber Gali sector along the LoC in Rajouri District the day before.

Speaking to media persons after wreath laying ceremony of BSF constable Gurnam Singh of RS Pura, who succumbed to his injuries last night after being hit by sniper shot fired by the Rangers in the morning of October 21, at BSF Paloura Headquarters, Additional Director General (DG) BSF, Western Command, Arun Kumar said: “Pakistan must understand that it will have to face Friday (October 21) like situation again when BSF had gunned down seven Rangers and one terrorist after sniper shot attack on Gurnam Singh”. Saying that the BSF has taken the revenge of the killing of Gurnam Singh by gunning down seven Pakistani Rangers and a terrorist immediately after injuries caused to Gurnam, Kumar warned that the Rangers will have to face similar situation again if they indulge in any kind of misadventure on the borders. “They (the Rangers) will have to face the music,” Kumar, who had specially reached here last evening from Chandigarh, said, adding that BSF was not going to show any leniency with the Rangers. The Pakistani Rangers, on October 24, targeted several forward areas from Suchetgarh to Pargwal sectors killing a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, Sushil Kumar, and a six year old child and injuring eight others including two BSF personnel and six civilians while 182 others were seriously injured along the International Border (IB) in Jammu District, reports Daily Excelsior. The mortar shells, which started raining from Pakistan side in RS Pura sector, extended to Arnia, Suchetgarh, GajansooMarh, Kanachak and Pargwal. Heavy shelling and firing from Pakistan side, which was replied very promptly and effectively by the BSF, took into its grip many forward villages, like parts of GajansooMarh, Fatehpur Salaria, Kothi etc in RS Pura.

Ceasefire violations by Pakistan, which targeted Indian posts and border villages Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Rajouri Districts of Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on October 25, resulted in injuries to seven civilians sustaining injuries, reports The Times of India. "Seven civilians, including two teenage girls, sustained injuries in cross-border firing in RS Pura and Kanhachak sectors of Jammu," an official said, adding that Pakistani forces fired small arms and 80-mm and 120-mm mortars in civilian areas. "The injured civilians were rushed to the Jammu hospital," he added. The six members of a family injured by splinters were identified as Shakshi (12), daughter of Subash Kumar; Manju Choudhary (15), daughter of Karan Choudhary; Veena (26), wife of Pawan Kumar; Soma Devi (40), wife of Raj Kumar; Kamlesh Kumari (28), wife of Subash Kumar; and Sanjana (10), daughter of Pawan Kumar. They are all residents of Suchetgarh in R S Pura. One Daljit Kaur of Chanduchak, Kanhachak, was also injured in the firing by the Pakistanis. Firing was still on along the border of Jammu District, the official added. According to the Border Security force (BSF) spokesperson, "Pakistan Rangers, at around 1130 hours, opened fire with small arms followed by mortars in Suchetgarh sub-sector of R S Pura in Jammu District. Pakistan targeted forward Indian BoPs (border outposts) at Abdullian and Chanduchak villages," he said, adding, "The BSF retaliated effectively. No injury or damage has been reported so far in today's exchange of fire. Intermittent firing is still on." Meanwhile, the brief lull along the LoC was broken by heavy firing by Pakistani on forward posts in Nowshera sector of Rajouri District.

Six persons were injured when Pakistani troops shelled over 15 Border Outposts (BoPs) and 29 hamlets with mortar bombs and fired heavily from automatic weapons in RS Pura and Arnia Sectors along the International Border (IB) in Jammu District on October 26, reports The Times of India. The Border Security Force (BSF) troops guarding the border line retaliated to the Pakistani firing. "There was heavy firing and mortar shelling on BoPs and villages along IB in RS Pura and Arnia sectors of Jammu district overnight and continued till this morning", a Police officer said. Pakistani troops pounded over 20 civilian hamlets along IB in Arnia and RS Pura in Jammu District overnight, he said. Over 15 Bops were also targeted. In the shelling, six civilians were injured in Khopra Basti belt in RS Pura, he said. "Heavy mortar shells were fired towards Arnia last night", Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh said.
