The Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC), while criticizing other Garo outfits such as the Achik National Liberation Front (ANLF) and United Achik National Front (UANF), has reportedly termed them as "group of extortionists and dacoits who have no ideology or principle, " according to Shillong Times. "Both UANF and ANLF are only after money and they are not fighting for the cause of the people of Garo Hills," said the ANVC ‘publicity secretary’ Arist Sengsrang Sangma on May 10. "We are fighting for a separate state and our demand is very much within the framework of the Indian constitution while the so called UANF has claimed that the organisation is fighting for independence which is not at all acceptable both to the government of India and the Garos as well," Sangma added.

Nagaland Post has reported that the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) at its meeting held at Pfutsero in the Phek district on May 11 and 12, has strongly condemned the frequent outbreak of factional killings among rival militant groups in the State. On the situation in Phek district, the meeting pointed that the innocent citizens had suffered because of threats, intimidations, extortions, and forced taxations imposed by the various militant groups. The church body alleged that the armed factions have forcibly occupied a number of private houses and educational institutions in the Phek district. In the light of such developments, the meeting described the existing ceasefire with the Union government a "public mockery".

Telegraph reports that the senior National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) functionary, Rh. Raising, reportedly raised the Naga issue at the inaugural conference of the British Parliamentarians for Self-determination in London on May 11 and sought the British Government’s intervention in the “Indo-Naga impasse”. “We feel that the Nagas are the innocent victims of the British intentional silence on the Indo-Naga issue. I, on behalf of the Naga people and Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim, would like to appeal to the British people and their government in particular and the world community in general to help solve the problem,” Raising told the conference. He also alleged that there was no “tangible response” from Indian Government on several points, which his organisation had tabled as “substantive issues” for solution.

Nagaland Post reports that the Union Government has cautioned the NSCN-IM not to jeopardise the peace process through its actions of associating with anti-India organisations or foreign countries that have nothing to do with the Naga issue. In their meeting with Muivah in Amsterdam, negotiators led by the Union minister of state Oscar Fernandes objected to the NSCN-IM sending an "emissary" to China recently. They also objected to the NSCN-IM associating with Parliamentarians for National Self-Determination, an organisation floated by Labour peer Lord Nazir Ahmed in the UK.

Talking to the media in Amsterdam on May 21, general secretary of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), Thuingaleng Muivah, threatened to take up arms again if the Union Government continues to undermine his outfit. Delhi, he said, should realise that “if its forces go on killing our cadre, betray their commitment to ceasefire and its ground rules, go on supporting the traitors against us, then the Nagas will be compelled to fight back…. Supporting others to undermine us is a treacherous policy. We will not hesitate to take up arms if forced by government of India’s policies.” On his outfit’s latest diplomatic forays abroad, Muivah claimed that India was being “unnecessarily critical”. “We sent our men to brief others of the progress in the peace talks with India and nothing else. We did not send them to ask for arms. Wherever they go they talk about the need for a solution through peaceful means. This is what our representatives did in London and in China,” said Muivah.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has reported the increasing flow of illicit drugs into India’s Northeast from neighbouring Myanmar. The UNODC, in association with the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, released a report on May 24 highlighting the emerging trends of drug use in the region. The report added that at least seven major routes running through four States sharing border with Myanmar — Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh —have been identified through which drugs such as ‘Number 4’ (heroin) and amphetamine are easily smuggled. The districts that are worst affected by the drugs trafficking are Chandel and Imphal in Manipur, and Kohima and Tuensang in Nagaland. “There has been crackdowns on drug barons in Thailand and Laos recently, following which drug traders from Myanmar must have shifted their attention to North-East. Also there are possibilities of amphetamine producing units being shifted to areas adjacent to Manipur and Nagaland,’’ said an official of the Narcotics Control Bureau.
