A top Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘commander’, identified as Nagesh alias Pedkam Erra (38), gave up arms and surrendered before Security Forces (SFs) in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on February 26, reports ommcomnews.com. Nagesh was allegedly involved in several deadly attacks, including the Tadmetla (then in Dantewada district) massacre in 2010, in which 76 troopers were killed, and the 2017 Burkapal attack, wherein 25 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel lost their lives and carried a bounty of INR 800,000. He joined the main stream after meeting senior Police and CRPF officials, citing disappointment with the “inhumane” and “hollow” Maoist ideology, Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran G. Chavan said. Erra joined the outlawed outfit in 2003 as a Local Organisation Squad (LOS) member. Later, he was promoted to the position of company 'commander'.
