The eldest son of the Taliban security commander for Badakhshan Province was arrested along with three other members of the Taliban on charges of smuggling and selling narcotics, specifically marijuana, on the outskirts of the Yangi Qala District in Takhar Province, reports Hasht-e Subh Daily on December 24. The arrestees were identified as Sawabuddin, a member of the Taliban’s anti-drug department; Siab Khan, the director of planning and operations in the Jurm District; and Mohammad Yaser, the son of the Taliban security commander for Badakhshan and Habibullah. Also, aside from 50 kilogrammes of marijuana (narcotics), two AK-40 rifles, a sniper rifle, and an American-made submachine gun were recovered from their possession.
