A Police personal was shot at and injured while arresting a wanted drug smuggler and gangster, identified as Rashpal Singh, suspected of having links with terrorists, in Tarn Taran District of Punjab on August 24, reports The Tribune. As per the report, the Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Malkit Singh was shot in the leg while chasing Rakshpal, however, the ASI overpowered and arrested him subsequently. An accomplice of Rashpal, managed to flee from the spot but a country-made semi-automatic pistol, two magazines, six live rounds and a Bullet motorcycle were recovered, said the Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta. Rashpal had allegedly established links with terrorists and was wanted in several cases, including eight FIRs registered against him under various provisions of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act and Arms Act (AA) in Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Mohali. Several weapons and commercial quantities of drugs had been seized from him in the past too, the DGP added.
