People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres exchanged fire with Security Forces (SFs) in the waterlogged area of Bandhgaon in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on May 30, reports CityPositive.Com. PLFI cadres have fled taking advantage of the forested areas after seeing the Police getting heavier in the encounter. Several rounds of firing were reported from both sides. Police received information from their informers that a squad of PLFI was present in the hilly area of Jalmay, Chatma and adjoining forests. Police recovered nine fire kiosks of AK-47, three fire boxes of INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifle, two bikes and cartridges of the PLFI cadres from the encounter site.
Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘sub zonal commander’ identified as Nunuchand Mahto alias Tiger alias Gandhi alias Netaji, carrying a reward of INR 5,00,000 over his head, has surrendered before the Police in Giridih District of Jharkhand on June 1, reports UNI. Speaking to the media after his surrender, Nunuchand said that he was relieved after returning to the mainstream and also urged other CPI-Maoist cadres to follow the same. He has joined CPI-Maoist in 2008.
