Assam Rifles (AR) has restricted the passage of people traversing on unauthorised roads along the Indo-Myanmar border, reports Imphal Free Press on May 6. The restrictions were taken up as temporary routine security or precautionary measures to avoid any untoward happenings in regard to the vote counting of the Lok Sabha (lower house of Indian Parliament) elections. The temporary exercise is likely to be continued till April 23. Indian Express further adds that large contingent of AR 43 Battalion was deployed in all the strategic points of Imphal since May 6. including unauthorized gates used by local residents of both sides of the border. AR reportedly barred entry of any commuters or pedestrian particularly from Myanmar side.
