A total 76 parties have filed applications to participate in the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) and Province Assembly member elections in the proportional representation category, reports My Republica on August 30. Applications from 76 different parties have been received at the office of the Election Officer, including 55 from 63 different parties in Province 1, 59 from 67 parties in Madhesh Province, and 58 petitions from 66 parties in Bagmati Province, according to Assistant Spokesperson at the Election Commission (EC), Surya Prasad Aryal. Likewise, 52 applications from 60 parties were received in Gandaki Province, 54 from 62 parties in Lumbini, 49 from 57 parties in Karnali Province and 58 applications from 50 parties in Sudurpaschim Province have been registered to contest in the upcoming November 20 elections.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) has launched a voters’ list updating program for the November 20 House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly elections, reports My Republica on August 29. On August 28, the EC published collected details of voters at the ward level. Thereafter, the designated official to register voters list will allocate time to make claims and objections over the electoral roll. Under this, things like correction of errors in details on the electoral roll, removal of names from the voters’ list, change of address and polling stations and removal of duplicate names will take place. The voters will be given time for a clarification when a complaint about fake details has been filed. The authorities concerned have been asked to complete the campaign and send the details to the EC within September 9. The EC is scheduled to approve and publish the final electoral roll on its website on September 16.
