Ground troops confirmed that a large number of terrorist dead bodies were also found scattered around their forward defence lines. Troops were compelled to launch those defensive measures as a result of the increased bout of LTTE violence against members of the Security Forces, disrupting the regular opening of the A-9 Highway." A senior military officer told The Hindu, "The number of soldiers killed is higher but we are not updating the casualty figure at the moment.
