On February 11, one of four suspected Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Sea Tigers aboard on a speeding trawler blew himself up in mid-sea off Talaimannar in the Mannar district after the trawler was intercepted by Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) personnel, according to ColomboPage. The suspected LTTE suicide bomber completely destroyed the trawler and killed all four sea Tigers on board and wounded a SLN personnel, who succumbed to his injuries later. According to Daily News, security force (SF) personnel recovered a LTTE travel document during a search operation in the area following the explosion.

One naval craft sustained three gunshot damages due to the LTTE fire. No injuries were caused to the SLN personnel, though the casualties of the outfit are not confirmed as yet, the report added. Subsequently, the Navy spotted a LTTE truck laden with heavy guns in the Palugasthurai area and destroyed it with the assistance of the air force.

However, no casualties were reported in this attack. Military spokesperson Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said that they had targeted two LTTE targets it viewed as threats to national security, adding, "We have taken two targets. One is a Sea Tiger base in Mannar (in the northwest), and the other is a military training camp 10 km southeast of Kilinochchi." Navy Commander D K P Dassanayake said, “Our radar detected two Tiger boats approaching our shores, and we dispatched navy boats to confront them.
