The Defence Ministry, in a communiqué, said that in the operations near Muhamaalai, between Kodikamam and Pallai, it had killed 25 Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres, while it ad lost four soldiers. 35 Soldiers and two officers were wounded in the operations, the Defence Ministry said.

Further, 75 LTTE rebels were believed to be trapped in the area. The LTTE, however, held that it had killed over 100 government troops and had injured more than 300. While the LTTE claimed that it had destroyed two tanks, the Defence Ministry said that government troops had destroyed a tank ‘that was bogged down’ and admitted that the LTTE had damaged two armoured tanks in RPG and artillery fire.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) were bombarding each other’s positions near A9 highway, since the morning. The SLA's operation, code named Welikathra, came under heavy resistance when Tiger rebels made a fresh attempt, on April 4, to advance towards Muhamaalai, the LTTE claimed. The SLA lost an additional kilometer of territory near Muhamaalai in a fierce counter-attack by the Tigers .The government claimed that 30 Tigers were killed in the battle at Muhamaalai. The Tigers claimed that 60 government troops were killed in the offensives. The LTTE also claimed that they were pushing further into the Jaffna peninsula and that its Special Border Force and Border Force units were playing a prominent role.

According to late reports, 11 government soldiers were killed on April 6, in a fresh initiative launched to recapture a strategic highway (Main Supply Route, MSR) from Tamil Tiger rebels. Backed by helicopter gun ships and artillery, Army troops wrested control of more than three kilometres (1.8 miles) of the strategic A-9 highway in the Jaffna peninsula. The rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) forces resisting this attack, used RPG fire to damage and destroy two T-63 armoured personnel carriers. 190 soldiers were wounded during the fighting.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) claimed on May 16 they have launched the final assault on Jaffna town and asked civilians there to move to safer areas. LTTE rebels also claimed that they have made fresh advances 'deep into army-held territory', in the Chavakachcheri sector. The LTTE reportedly overran a base in Navatkuli and was attacking another base in Kaithady, besides damaging defences at Pasaiyur and Kurunagar, on Jaffna outskirts. The Special Media Information Centre said that government forces fought the LTTE, but shifted their positions to north-east of Tanankilappu, as troops came under concentrated artillery and mortar attack from the LTTE. In the clashes, six soldiers, including an officer were killed and 36 others were wounded, while the LTTE lost forty cadres. Besides, troops killed four more rebels in Nagarkovil, on May 15.

The government's Special Media Information Centre said on December 18 that troops recovered five more bodies of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels in the Nunavil area. The rebels were killed in Stage II of Op Kinihara V. 13 dead bodies of rebel cadres have been recovered so far.
