One LTE cadre was killed in clashes in Ariyali and a patrol party in Batticaloa killed two more LTTE rebels, on May 22. In clashes reported at Colombuthurai two soldiers were killed and another six were killed in clashes in Chavakachcheri. In all, 47 security forces personnel, including six officers were wounded in separate clashes.

In a delayed report a Tamil independent news source, tamilnet.com stated on September 12 that three soldiers and three policemen were killed when LTTE rebels attacked a security force patrol at Morawewa north-west of Trincomalee on the night of September 10. The report was ascribed to the Voice of Tigers, a radio channel run by the LTTE. Three rebels were also killed in the attack. Some arms, ammunition and heavy weaponry were also seized by the rebels.
