Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres reportedly abducted a youth, identified as Sanjay Tati, and killed him after branding him a ‘police informer’ in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 1, reports The Times of India. Tati (25), was a resident of Tarem Police Station area, was found lying on the Road Rehabilitation Project (RRP)-I Awapalli-Jagargunda road. Bijapur, Superintendent of Police (SP), Anjaneya Varshney said that some Maoists abducted Sanjay from Kursampara village on December 31. The Jagargunda area committee of CPI (Maoist) claimed responsibility for the incident, SP, Varshney said, the Maoists also dropped pamphlets near the dead body branding him as a ‘police informer’, adds Hindustan Times.

Two persons, identified as Mehdi Hasan, a resident of Hatibandha in Lalmonirhat District and Jamal Uddin, a resident of Kaliganj in Gazipur District, who were serving prison sentences since their arrest in November 2017 for their suspected involvement with the Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), were abducted by unidentified masked men the moment they were released from Lalmonirhat jail on February 20, reports The Daily Star. Families of both the persons stated that as soon as Mehedi and Jamal crossed the jail gate after their release, a gang of eight to ten masked men got down from a microbus and grabbed Mehdi and Jamal, shoved both of them inside the vehicle and fled. A missing persons complaint was filed at the local Police station regarding the abduction.

The cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) killed a villager after branding him as a ‘police informer’ at Tumdiwal village under Pungarpal Police Station in Kondagaon District of Chhattisgarh on March 5, reports mp.punjabkesari.in. According to Police, armed rebels struck at Tumdiwal village on March 4 and abducted six villagers engaged in a religious function when the Maoists raided. They took the villagers inside the forests and interrogated them to ascertain whether they were working for the Police and passing on information about their movements. The rebels freed four villagers on March 4 evening and detained the other two. Sources said one person somehow managed to escape from their custody. The Maoists brutally killed the other, identified as Baramasi Nag, a resident of Tumdiwal Kotmeta Para, and left the body near the residence of a former Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution) of the village.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed a Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution) in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on march 7, reports The Times of India. Sarpanch Pune Sanna of Pongabhejji Gram Panchayat was abducted by a group of armed Maoists, who intercepted his way near the village when he was returning home on March 6 night. His body was recovered the next day on the road, at Rabdipura, on the outskirts of the village, with his throat slit. Sources said it was an attempt to create terror among the villagers so that they don’t participate in development activities or work in collaboration with the Police or administration.

On March 17, Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), released two workers, identified as Mamun and Abdur Rahman, who were held as hostages, reports Dhaka Tribune. They were abducted together with a former Army Sergeant identified as Mohammad Anwar Hossain on March 15 from Longthasi Jhiri, a bordering neighbourhood of Ruma Sadar union and Remakri Pransa union in Bandarban District. The former Army Sergeant is still being held by KNF. KNF admitted the abduction in a Facebook post on their "Va-Te Kuki" page on March 17, 2023. While the abduction took place on September 29, the incident has been confirmed by the Bijapur Police only after Maoists, in their standard style, claimed the abduction by releasing a press note anonymously on October 4. The Maoists stated it was the work of their People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the military wing of the CPI-Maoists, who are interrogating the jawan, and “their decision will depend on the next stand of police administration”. The Police warden, Lalsu Dhingra Velda (55), was accused by the Maoists of tipping off the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Hedri subdivision and acting as an agent of mining firms, as per the Maoist pamphlet signed by the Gatta Local Organisational Squad (LOS) formation of Dandakaranya.
