Suspected militants opened fire on a Police party injuring one civilian, identified as Abdul Rashid Dar, and one Security Force (SF) trooper, identified as Kishor Kumar of 16th Battalion of Indian Reserve Police (IRP), at a busy Sunday Market in Sopore town (Baramulla District) on March 24, reports Daily Excelsior. Dar later succumbed to his injuries. Militants also snatched the service rifle (AK-47) of injured cop before fleeing from the site. Kashmir Times added that there was a huge rush at the Sunday Market as it opened for the first time since the execution of 2001 Parliament Attack Case convict, Mohammad Afzal Guru on February 9, 2013. Superintendent of Police, Sopore, Imtiyaz Hussain Mir said that the Police have recovered three cartridges used in Shaheen Pistol from the spot. Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM) has owned the responsibility for the attack.

Militants in the evening of April 26 laid ambush and killed four Police personnel near Haigam locality along the Sopore-Kupwara road in Baramulla District, reports Daily Excelsior. Inspector General of Police (IGP) A G Mir said that four Policemen were on their way to Haigam to probe a complaint of robbery when they were ambushed by militants in a lane of the village. The slain troopers have been identified as Head Constable Abdul Rehman, Constable Mudasir Ahmad and Special Police Officers (SPO) Gulshan and Mudasir Ahmad Parray. Baleeg-ud-Din, ‘spokesperson’ of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), through a phone call to a local new agency has claimed responsibility of the attack, Kashmir Times added. The Times of India further adds militants took away three AK-47 rifles from the slain troopers.

An Army trooper who sustained injuries during the the encounter at village Bicchu in Tral area of Pulwama District on May 24, succumbed to his injuries later in the day, while Security Forces (SF) shot dead one of the three militants, identified as Saifullah Ahangar, during the encounter, reports Daily Excelsior. The militants are affiliated to the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) outfit. Earlier the militants had snatched 3 AK-47 rifles from the dead Army personnel. One snatched AK rifle of the Army and an SLR magazine was recovered from the possession of the dead militant. Militants also left behind the two SLRs which they had taken away from a minority security picket at village Arigam in Tral region in May 2012.

Police said that members of the Special Police Forces Constable Osman and Constable Subhanullah were on duty on Ring Road when terrorists riding a motorcycle attacked them. Five persons were killed and 50 others injured as Jamaat-e-Islam (JeI) and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) enforced a daylong countrywide hartal (general strike) on July 15, reports New Age. JeI-ICS enforced the dawn-to-dusk general strike in protest against what it claimed ‘the government conspiracy to kill JeI leaders in the name of judgement.’ Of the deceased, a local leader of the ruling Awami League (AL) was beaten to death by JeI and ICS cadres in Satkhira District and a JeI cadre and an ICS cadre were shot dead during a clash with the law enforcers in Chapainawabganj District, while two ICS cadres were lynched by villagers in Kushtia District. During the shutdown, the cadres of JeI-ICS vandalised and set on fire several hundred vehicles including Police vans. They also snatched away firearms from Police during the clashes. JeI claimed that over 50 of its cadres were injured and the law enforcers arrested over 100 of its cadres across the country.

Robbers made off with PKR four million from branches of two private banks in separate bank robberies on September 25, reports Daily Times. Police said at least five armed assailants barged into a private bank branch situated in Landhi Town and snatched weapons of security guards. Later they fled from the bank after looting PKR 3.9 million. In another incident, another private bank was looted by armed assailants near Noorani Chowrangi within the limits of Ferozabad Police Station in Jamshed Town. They looted PKR 0.89 million from cash counter. In both the incidents, robbers took along the CCTV footage with them.

The attackers set one vehicle on fire and also stole the weapons which were being carried by Levies forces and other ammunition in the prince's convoy before escaping. At least eight persons were killed and over 80 injured after sectarian clashes erupted at a 10th of Muharram (the mourning period observed by the Shias, commemorating the tragedy of Karbala) procession near Fawara Chowk in Rawalpindi of Punjab on November 15, reports The Express Tribune. The tragedy occurred as mob turned against the Police in the procession passing through Raja Bazaar. A group of miscreants at 3:00pm reportedly snatched guns from Police personnel installed in the area for security, and opened fire. As panic spread, unknown people set a portion of the cloth market in Raja Bazaar on fire. The situation soon got out of hand and the Army was called in to control the situation. Authorities have imposed a curfew for 24 hours in the limits of 19 Rawalpindi Police Stations. The curfew will also extend to Rawal Town and Potohar Town.

Another police constable was killed by unidentified militants while he was coming back home from duty in Bandar Kalan of Bannu District on November 24, reports The Express Tribune. Township Police Official Afsar Ali Khan said the incident occurred at around 7am. Ashraf Khan was deployed at Khalifa Gul Nawaz Medical Complex. After he had finished his duty at the hospital, he was on his way home when unidentified militants intercepted him in Bandar Kalan. They opened fire at him and killed him on the spot, escaping with his rifle.
