Three suspected militants, identified as Gul Pir Khan, Noor Alam and Ameer Mohammad, were killed in a Police encounter led by Crime Investigation Department’s (CID)Counter-Terrorism Unit on Northern Bypass, on the outskirts of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh on January 6, reported The Express Tribune. The militants are suspected to be affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), adds The News. CID in-charge Khurram Waris said that the victims were involved in terrorist activities in various parts of the country from Karachi to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including sectarian killings, police murders and kidnapping-for-ransom. Waris claimed that the suspects were planning attacks on a private school in Karachi without sharing any further information. CID further claims to have recovered three pistols, two grenades and Improvised Explosive Devices from their possession.

Four Al-Qaeda terrorists, including a ‘commander’, were killed in alleged encounter with Police in Qayyumabad area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports The News on January 9 (today). CID Incharge Raja Umer Khattab said the shootout with terrorists took place in sector D area of Qayyumabad. Police also recovered suicide jackets and weapons from the custody of terrorists. He said Al-Qaeda ‘commander’, identified as Sajjad, was among the dead. He said the terrorists were experts of making suicide jackets and were planning to target office of intelligence agency. Other terrorists were identified as Muhammad Hashim, Yasir Arafat and Shamim alias Commando.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar claimed on January 13 to have killed five alleged terrorists in an encounter at Gulshan-e-Bunair area of Karachi, the Provincial capital of Sindh, reports Daily Times. SSP raided the area of Quaidabad along with 500 Policemen on secret information about the presence of terrorists of the plotters of Karachi jailbreak attempt. When Police reached the scene terrorists opened fire on them, as a result a Police mobile was damaged. However, in retaliatory fire five alleged terrorists belonging to a banned outfit were killed. Police recovered weapons and explosive material from the possession of dead criminals. Later, two killed terrorists were identified as Sajid and Mateen. Police sources said that Sajid was the mastermind of Karachi jailbreak foiled bid.

Senior Superintended of Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar Ahmed on January 28 claimed to have killed five militants in Nawab Goth area within the limits of Steel Town Police Station in Bin Qasim Town of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Daily Times. The Police recovered weapons, explosives material and suicide vests from their possession. SSP Malir raided in Nawab Goth on spy information of the presence of terrorists and killed five alleged terrorists during the encounter. According to SSP Rao the militants belonged to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were planning to attack the Razzaqabad Police Training Centre.

Rangers on February 1 claimed to have killed five gangsters in an encounter in Salar Goth area of Malir Town in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Dawn. They were identified as Akber Maliri, Khalid Lashari, Sheraz Ibrahim alias Comrade of Malir, Gulab Hasan alias Peero, and Yousuf Pathan. Akbar Maliri, was stated to be the main character in the gang warfare in parts of Malir and belonged to the Uzair Baloch group. “The gangsters were the symbol of terror in the city and were involved in numerous murders and other heinous crimes,” claimed the paramilitary force official. However, later in the afternoon, family sources confirmed that Shiraz Comrade is not among those killed. It has been confirmed that the individual earlier mistaken as Shiraz Comrade is also named Shiraz. According to details, the paramilitary force conducted a targeted operation at suspected hideouts located near the Malir riverbed. The suspects started indiscriminate fire on seeing the soldiers, upon which the Rangers returned fire and during the heavy gunfight five gangsters were killed, added the official. The Rangers official described the deceased as notorious gangsters. The soldiers also recovered weapons from their possession.

Four Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants were shot dead in a Police encounter near a graveyard in Sohrab Goth area of Gadap Town in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh on February 19, reported Dawn. Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar said that the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bin Qasim Town Police Station Azhar Iqbal had received secret information that chief of TTP- Sohrab Goth Chapter, Qari Alamgir, was staying in a house there along with his accomplices. “Qari Alamgir was wanted in kidnapping for ransom and other criminal cases,” said SSP Anwar. The Police claimed to have seized explosive material, arms and ammunition from their possession. “Eight to 10 bags containing explosive material, a suicide jacket, pistols, submachine guns and hand grenades were seized,” claimed SHO Iqbal.

The CTD chief said the identity of the two other suspects could not be ascertained immediately. Police killed five Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants in a shootout during checking in Zia Colony of Orangi Town in provincial capital Karachi on July 29, reported The News. According to details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Azfar Mehesar of District West said that a Mominabad Police team was patrolling when they saw some suspects in a Hi-roof van. When the Police signalled the van driver to pull over, the suspects opened fire. As the Police retaliated, more companions of the terrorists who were coming behind the van on a motorcycle attacked the Police, wounding Police Constable (PC) Naseem. After the encounter ended, five suspects were arrested in an injured condition but their accomplices escaped under the cover of darkness. A ready-to-use IED weighing about four kilograms was found from the van. Explosive material, a detonating cord, nut bolts, nails, batteries, three TT pistols, a Kalashnikov, hand grenades, ball bombs and some other explosives were recovered. The SSP suspected that the terrorists had been planning to carry out an attack at some place or installation in retaliation against the killing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) 'chief' Malik Ishaq on July 8, 2015 in Punjab.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East, Fida Hussain Janwari, the Police obtained intelligence about the presence of gangsters in the area after which a joint team of the Police and Rangers conducted a targeted raid on an alleged hideout. Fida Hussain identified one of the deceased as Sadiq Gadani. “He had established a reign of terror in Lyari,” claimed the senior Police Officer. “Sadiq Gadani was linked with Noor Mohammed alias Baba Ladla gang,” he said. But some residents said Sadiq Gadani had recently parted ways with Baba Ladla and joined the Lashari gang. The Sindh Government had placed PKR 1 million bounty on his head. The other deceased gangsters were identified as Salar, Shahnawaz and Raza while a fifth suspect could not be identified immediately, said the SSP.

Police, on a tip off provided by an arrested militant, raided an alleged hideout off the Northern Bypass in Manghopir area. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar, who led the Police party said, on seeing the Policemen, the suspects resorted to firing, injuring Manghopir Station House Officer (SHO) Ghulam Hussain Korai and constable Altaf. During the exchange of fire, eight suspects were gunned down, he said. The SSP identified four of the deceased suspects as Irfan Munir, Saddam Hussain, Sharifullah and Ismail Mehsud. The other four deceased suspects have not been identified as yet. The senior Police official claimed the suspects were involved in the recent killing of policemen in Karachi, the Abbas Town bomb blast, and other targeted killings.
