The South Punjab chapter of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) threatens the CD businessmen of Imperial Market in Raza Bazaar in Rawalpindi to shut down movie and CD shops or face the consequences, reports The Express Tribune. The letter, written in Urdu on plain white paper, was addressed to the president of Imperial Market, Sheikh Idrees, and claimed to be written by the leader of TTP-South Punjab. However, the name of the writer was not given. “We have noticed that your market has become a den of immoral and un-Islamic activities. You sell pornographic movies and CDs containing immoral content. Therefore, we warn you to stop your immoral activities now or else you will be responsible for the grave consequences,” stated the letter, adding that this was the final warning. The letter also urged traders to, “Help (TTP-Punjab) in eliminating immorality from society.”

Pamphlets branding members of the minority Ahmadiyya community as "wajib-ul-qatl" (fit to be killed) and inciting people to attack them are being openly circulated in Faisalabad District of Punjab, reported Indian Express, quoting media reports. The pamphlets list the names of several Ahmadiyya industrialists, doctors and businesses. The pamphlets were issued by the All Pakistan Students Khatm-e-Nubuwat Federation and are being circulated at main shopping plazas and important commercial centres in Punjab. "To shoot such people is an act of jihad and to kill such people is an act of sawab (blessing)," the pamphlets read. The Umoor-e-Aama Jama'at Ahmadiyya of Faisalabad, a group representing the community, reacted to the distribution of such literature by saying that the propaganda campaign is being "carried out unhindered by some fanatic religious groups under the patronage of law enforcing agencies and the provincial government". Al Qaeda on December 1 claimed responsibility for the abducting of a 70-year-old American aid worker, Warren Weinstein, from his house in the eastern city of Lahore on August 13, and issued a series of demands for his release, reports Dawn. In a video message posted on militant websites, al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri said Warren Weinstein would be released if the United States stopped airstrikes in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen. He also demanded the release of all al Qaeda and Taliban suspects around the world. ”Just as the Americans detain all whom they suspect of links to al Qaeda and the Taliban, even remotely, we detained this man who is neck-deep in American aid to Pakistan since the 1970s,” al-Zawahri said, according to a translation provided by the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors militant messages.

In the Difaa-e-Pakistan Conference (‘Defence of Pakistan’ conference) led by Jama’at-ud-Dawa (JuD) and Jama’at-e-Ulema-Islam (JuI), about 50,000 Islamists, including chief Hafiz Saeed, staged a protest at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore on December 18 to condemn the United States (US) and India, while showing support for Pakistan’s military, reported Indian Express. The speakers also included Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, known as the father of the Afghan Taliban. Saeed vowed to avenge the creation of Bangladesh in 1971 and to continue the holy war in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). He claimed it was the duty of Pakistanis to take revenge for the killing of Muslims in Gujarat in 2002, the destruction of the Babri Masjid in 1992 and the killing of Pakistani nationals in the bombing of the Samjhauta Express train in 2007. Saeed warned the US to avoid creating troubles for Pakistan. Otherwise, he said, the JuD and workers of other like-minded parties knew what action to take, added Dawn. “Today I send out a message to Americans. We will give you due respect as guests in line with our religion. But if you come here to deprive Pakistan of its nuclear assets, to martyr our soldiers in Mohmand Agency-like incidents, kill innocent people as Raymond Davis had done and use our country’s airbases for spying, we will defend our country with full force,” he said.
