At least 82 persons were killed and over 200 persons were injured in two separate bomb blasts in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on January 10, reports The News. At least 70 people were killed and over 160 injured in an attack targeting Shias at Alamdar Road in Quetta late in the evening. A suicide bomber blew himself up inside a snooker club on Alamdar Road, which has two Shia prayer halls and a sizeable population of Shia Hazaras. Another blast took place outside the snooker club 10 minutes later. The twin blasts resulted in the death of as many as 70 people on the spot, most of them from the Hazrara Shia community. Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP), Mujahid Hussain, Station House Officer (SHO), Zafar Ali, Samaa cameraman Imran Sheikh, a reporter of the same channel, Saifur Rehman, and four Edhi volunteers were among those killed. Police experts said that more than 125 kilograms of explosives were used in the blasts. “It was the largest ever bomb to have hit the city,” said an unnamed senior Police Official.

At least five persons, including a Frontier Corps (FC) trooper, were killed and over 30 others were injured in a suicide attack at a check post near Alamdar Road, an area in Quetta (Quetta District), the provincial capital of Balochistan, on April 23, reports The Times of India. The blast damaged several buildings, shops and vehicles. The attacker's truck was packed with an estimated 80 kilograms of explosives. The suicide attacker detonated his explosives-laden truck when he was stopped by FC personnel at a check post. Officials said the bomber wanted to target Abdul Khaliq Hazara, a top leader of the Hazara Democratic Party. Three other blasts were also reported from Quetta. Bombs went off in an open field at Jinnah town, Gawalmandi chowk and an intersection at Gurdat Singh Road. Six persons were injured at Gawalmandi Chowk. Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) claimed responsibility for all the attacks.

The June 15, 2013 twin suicide attacks in Quetta (Quetta), the provincial capital of Balochistan targeting a bus of female students and a hospital that killed 25 people were carried out by the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) to avenge the June 6, 2013 killing of five people [including two militants, their wives and a child] by the Security Forces (SFs) during a raid in the Khrotabad area of Quetta, on June 17, reports The News. However, well-informed sources in the security agencies insist that the militants had blown themselves up [along with their family members] when they were asked by the forces to surrender. The LeJ spokesman Abu Bakar told some Quetta-based journalists over phone that the first attack on the bus was carried out by a female bomber, Ayesha Siddiqa, while the second bombing was conducted by a male bomber who exploded himself inside Bolan Hospital where the victims of the first blast were being taken. According to the LeJ spokesman, the suicide hits were actually meant to avenge the June 6, 2013 operation by the SFs in the Killi Barat Khrotabad area of Quetta during which innocent women and a child were also killed.

Thirty eight persons, including 21 Police officials, were killed and 40 others were injured in a suicide blast at a funeral in the Police Lines area of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on August 8, reports The News. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Operation, Fayyaz Ahmed Sumbal; Superintendent of Police (SP), Headquarters, Mehrullah; Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), in-charge, Shamsur Rehman; SP Traffic Mohammad Anwer Khilji; Inspector Shakeel Akbar; and five personnel of the Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF) were among those killed. Majority of the injured personnel were from the Balochistan Constabulary, ATF, and Police. According to the sources, Inspector General (IG) Balochistan Mustahq Ahmed Shukera and Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mir Zubair Mehmood were the prime targets of the suicide attack; however, they remained safe as they arrived at the site a minute later. The bomber struck when the officers gathered to pay their respects to Station House Officer (SHO) of City Police Station, Mohibullah, who was shot dead by militants in the Killi Almo area of Quetta earlier in the day. The militants had opened indiscriminate fire on a Police van killing the SHO and injuring six others, reports Dawn. Meanwhile, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed the responsibility for the killing of SHO Mohibullah and suicide attack on Police Lines, reports Daily Times. “We killed the station-house officer and then we targeted the funeral to kill the other officers,” TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said. Police said the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.
