A group of about 500 Maoists led by the President of the pro-Maoist Madhesi Mukti Morcha and Maoist district member, Nanda Kishore Pandey, along with one Nanku Khan attacked a Police Post at Suiya in the Katkuiya Village Development Committee (VDC) area of the Banke district on April 30-night, Himalayan Times reports. The Maoists detained Sub-Inspector Mukesh Kunwar for 14 hours and assaulted Constables Krishna Pratap Sen and Purna Bahadur. According to Nepal News, the Chief District Officer of Banke, Narendra Raj Sharma, said that Police recovered three rifles and one pistol looted by the Maoists, but they are yet to get back 200 rounds of bullets looted by them. According to Sub-Inspector Kunwar, Pandey and Police Constable Tek Bahadur Rana entered into an argument after the former refused to let the Policeman frisk him during a regular check. Pandey reportedly told the Police that he was a Maoist leader and there was no need for him to undergo a security check.

Earlier, the police had arrested Nanda on the charge of killing Netra Bahadur Shahi, a Nepali Congress-Democratic activist, who was abducted on March 10 and whose dead body was recovered a few days back. Two persons, including an assistant sub-inspector of police, were injured when Maoists assaulted them at Laxminagar in the Doti district on November 11, according to Himalayan Times. The Assistant Chief District Officer of Doti, Ramesh Gautam, informed that CPN-Maoist cadres assaulted assistant sub-inspector Lalit Hamal, who was posted at Jorayal Area Police Office and a civilian, identified as Yogendra Deuba, of Dadeldhura Gankhet. The Maoists assaulted Deuba accusing him of beating up their cadres during the emergency period a few years ago. Hamal was assaulted for attempting to settle the issue with the Maoists. Police have arrested four Maoists who were involved in the incident.

Cadres of the Young Communist League (YCL) abducted six persons, including doctors and directors of the Biratnagar-based Nobel Medical College, on November 18 and tortured them brutally for 14 hours at an unidentified location near Kamidanda in the Kavre district, according to Kantipuronline. The victims were abducted from Tilganga upon their arrival at the Tribuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. They were later freed on November 19. The victims claimed that YCL Valley chief, Sagar, and Maoist central leader Barsha Man Pun a.k.a. Ananta were directly involved in threatening and torturing the doctors and board members.
