According to Himalayan Times, the Joint Task Force meeting of the five agitating political parties has decided to call a strike in the Kathmandu Valley on April 3, today, to protest the police action against the rally towards the Palace taken out on April 2. At least 100 activists of the five-party alliance, including six leaders and an 11-year-old boy, were reportedly injured when a protest march towards the Palace turned violent after security personnel allegedly used force to prevent protestors from entering the restricted zones. Central leaders of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) Amrit Kumar Bohara, Iswor Pokharel and Jhalanath Khanal, Lilamani Pokharel and Dilaram Acharya of United People's Front, Ram Chandra Poudel and Dr Ramsharan Mahat of Nepali Congress were among those injured.

The Kathmandu Post quoting a report released by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists said that the Government and Maoists have killed 12 and abducted 10 journalists since November 2001. It also added that both the warring parties have physically and psychologically tortured hundreds of journalists since a state of emergency was declared in Nepal in November 2001.

The tax collectors of Chainpur Bazaar said that they have stopped collecting taxes for the past three weeks. Other reports said that the Maoist aligned outfit, 'Tamang Autonomous Janaparishad', has withdrawn its ban on Hindi films and Indian vehicles in the Tamang area. Earlier, the outfit had imposed a ban protesting against the arrests of their central leaders of the 'Janaparishad' in Makwanpur, Dhading, Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts from June 15 to June 21.

One of the seminary leaders’ Mufti Kafayatullah said that the Government would be responsible for the situation arising out of the raids on some Madrassas. Various students’ organizations brought out protest rallies in Dhanusha, Hetauda, Pokhara, Rupandehi, Udaypur, Khotang, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts. While addressing the nation, Prime Minster Sher Bahadur Deuba called for restraint and said "the terrorists know no religion or race… Nepalese should not be provoked by the inhumane and barbaric acts of terrorists and not indulge in provocative activities aimed at any communities."

In a statement released by the People’s Front Nepal (PFN), the leaders and cadres of PFN have intensified their ‘exposure campaign’ against Maoists in many villages of Baglung district. The PFN women’s wing, All Nepal Women’s Association (ANWA), has taken the lead and has been planning to organize weeklong meetings, rallies and interactions in 16 VDC in the southern region of the district. Report quoting the central leader of PFN, Lila Bahadur Thapa Magar said, "We will first urge Maoists to stop violence. But if they continue, we will launch strong protests in all the villages."

According to reports, over 2,000 women of six VDCs took to the streets chanting anti-Maoist slogans in Kasmisera on December 5. On December 4, thousand of protesters from 16 different Village Development Committee’s (VDC) of Baglung district took part in the anti-Maoist campaign initiated by People’s Front Nepal (PFN). In Pyuthan and Terhathum, PFN has started protest programs against Maoist violence. Reports citing PFN local leaders said that the PFN was launching various programs against Maoist activities in the districts.
