Nepal News reports that Maoist insurgents killed three villagers, including an eight-year-old boy, and abducted over two dozen others in the remote mid-western district of Dailekh for defying their orders. Over a dozen armed rebels attacked villagers at Salleri Village Development Committee-4 (VDC) in the district who were holding a meeting to discuss strategies to resist Maoists atrocities in the area after the Maoists had issued order to villagers to compulsorily send at least one member each to the banned party as their fulltime worker. In the incident, the Maoists shot and killed 60-year-old ex-serviceman Balbir Gurung and his 8-year-old grandson Ashok. They also took Durga Bahadur Khadka, a local farmer, into custody and killed him, reports said. The insurgents have also abducted 24 villagers who were taking part in the meeting and have taken them towards unknown locations. Six villagers who were beaten up by the Maoists have escaped and arrived at Khalanga, the district headquarter of Dailekh for treatment, Kantipur daily reported.
