A Defence Ministry statement on January 6 said that five Maoist insurgents were killed and 28 suspects arrested on January 5. One rebel, identified as the ‘Chariman’ of the local Maoist Village People’s Committee, was killed in Dubi Danda, Rolpa district. Another rebel was killed at Dang while attempting to attack a government unit in the area. In search operations at Palawang in Salyan district, a third rebel was killed. The fourth rebel was killed in an encounter at Katuwachauari in Parbat district. In Myagdi two soldiers were killed and six more injured, in an ambush laid by the insurgents. One insurgent was also killed in the incident.

Maoists killed two civilians in an attack on a house in Manpur village in the Rautahat district on May 25 and two Maoists were killed in counterattacks by villagers and security forces. One Maoist each was killed in Ramechap, Surkhet, Syangjha and Kailali on May 24, Defence Ministry added. Arjun Dotel, an ‘area commander’, was killed in Surkhet. Intense clashes were reported between the security forces and Maoist insurgents in Jumla and Gorkha, on November 14, reports said. The insurgents, numbering several hundreds, attacked Jumla airport and then two police establishments and other government offices at the district headquarters. Chief District Officer of Jumla Damodar Pant and two civilians died in the assault reports said. Several hundred insurgents are feared dead in security forces counter offensives in Jumla. A report added that the number could be as high as 300, besides, the 55 confirmed killed, whose bodies have been recovered. Also, 33 policemen and four soldiers were killed in the clashes in Jumla. In the clashes in Gorkha, 23 policemen and at least 63 Maoist insurgents have been confirmed killed. Besides, the security forces recovered four SLRs, seven 303 rifles, shotguns, explosives, bullets and spares of automatic weapons in Jumla after the clashes, the Defence Ministry said. However, the insurgents managed to loot several .303 rifles from the police. Also, they looted NR 1.9 million from the Rashtriya Banijya Bank. Inspector General of Police Pradip SJB Rana visited the sites of the clashes in Jumla.
