Five Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres surrendered before Police at Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on March 2, reports Telangana Today. All were ‘militia’ and ‘village committee members’ of Chennapuram village in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in the District. The Maoists – Kalmu Adama (25), Madivi Adama (41), Madakam Somudu (33), Madakam Deva (22) were the ‘village committee members’ and Madakam Sona (25) was a ‘militia member’. They were working for the CPI-Maoist for the past three years and were involved in cases including triggering of two bomb explosions as well as planting booby traps in the forests of Chennapuram to harm the Police.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre identified as Madakam Nandal alias Nandu (20), a resident of Kourugutt village of Pameda Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh surrendered before the Police in Mulugu District of Telangana on June 4, reports Telangana Today. Nandu was working as a guard to the CPI-Maoist ‘commander’ of Special Guerilla Squad (SGS), Lachanna and he was suffering from ill-health and there was no chance of him getting proper treatment. He joined as a member of Cherla Arunakka Dalam (armed squad) in 2018 with the help of Somudu, an underground cadre, and worked there for one year as a Dalam member. On the instructions of Azad, Telangana State Committee member, he moved to Manuguru and worked as a guard to Lachanna. At the time of working as a guard to Lachanna, he participated in Battoom firing, Pedda Midisaleru road blasting and also in the exchange of fire at Tekulagudem of Chhattisgarh in which 24 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel died, said Superintendent of Police (SP), Mulugu, Dr Sangram Singh Ganpatrao Patil

19 Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, who are militia members and village committee members of the CPI-Maoist have surrendered before the Security Forces (SFs) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on June 15, reports Hindustan Times. Among the surrendered militants ten members from Puligundala, seven from Bakkachintalapadu of Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) and two others from Mulakanapalli of Dummugudem Mandal (administrative sub-division). Among the surrendered CPI-Maoist cadres, three are female militia members. All the surrendered have worked as militia and village committee members for the Cherla Area Committee of the CPI-Maoist, said Sunil Dutt, Superintendent of Police (SP), Bhadradri Kothagudem. On June 26, a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) couple surrendered in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana, reports United News of India. Madivi lduma alias Sunder, a Manuguru Local Organising Squad (LOC) ‘area command member’ (ACM), and his wife, Madakam Budri alias Sonia of Manuguru LOC Dalam (armed squad), surrendered due to harassment by Maoist Party leadership and fear of spread of Covid-19. Madivi Iduma, who had joined CPI-Maoist in 2018, was presently working as guard member to Azad, ‘state committee member’ (SCM) and Bhadradri Kothagudem ‘regional secretary’, while his wife was working as guard to Azad ‘SCM’ and Bhadradri Kothagudem ‘divisional secretary’. In press release, Police has appealed to all Maoist party leaders and members to surrender to ensure proper medical treatment and rehabilitation as per Government.

Rama, who had joined the Maoist ranks in 2016, is presently working as a guard to the CPI-Maoist ‘divisional committee member’ (DVCM) Jagadeesh, while Laxmi has been actively involved in Maoist activities in Jegurgonda. “Both of them feared for their lives due to harassment by Maoist party leaders, who are threatening the Maoist cadres for willing to come out and live better life,” SP, Sunil Dutt said.

A Platoon Party Committee (PPC) member of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Ravula Ranjit alias Srikanth (23), surrendered before the Police in Hyderabad District of Telangana on July 14, reports News 18. Srikanth is the son of CPI-Maoist ‘central committee’ (CC) member Ravula Srinivas alias Ramanna, who passed away in 2020, and his mother Madivi Savithri is a ‘divisional committee member’ (DVCM) of Kistaram area committee in Bastar and is still underground. Director General of Police (DGP), M Mahendar Reddy, said, Srikanth was involved in four major attacks on Security Forces (SFs) and one failed ambush between 2018 and 2021. On the advice of his father, Srikanth joined the 2nd Platoon of 1st Company as Party Member in 2017. In November 2019, he was promoted as ‘PPC’ member.

Three female Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘militia members’ and one male ‘village committee member’ of the CPI-Maoist, surrendered before Bhadrachalam, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), G. Vineeth, in Bhadradri-Kothagudem District of Telangana on July 27, reports The Hindu. The ASP alleged that the Maoist leaders were forcing minor boys and girls to work as ‘militia members’ and ‘village committee members’ of the CPI-Maoist. ASP, Vineeth, said the four members of Charla Mandal (administrative sub-division) severed their ties with the proscribed organisation to lead a peaceful life with their family members. The identities of the surrenderees are yet to be ascertained.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘divisional committee member’ (DVCM), East Division, Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), Ekkanti Seetharam Reddy aka Naganna (65), surrendered before Police Commissioner, Vishnu S. Warrier, in Khammam District of Telangana on August 27, reports The Hindu. Naganna, a native of Chintiryala in Aswapuram Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri-Kothagudem District, was closely associated with the Radical Student Organisation (RSU) while studying in Government Polytechnic College at Masab Tank in Hyderabad during early 1970s. He joined the then People’s War Group (PWG) as a member of Bhadrachalam area dalam (armed squad) in 1981 and a year later elevated as a ‘commander’ of the squad, and subsequently worked in Shabari, Venkatapuram and Rampachodavaram dalams. In 1985, he was arrested by Donelankapalem Police and lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail for more than two years. On his release on bail, he returned to his native village in 1988 where he lived for three years before rejoining the outlawed outfit in 1992, and worked in the Ranganna dalam of Malkangiri Area in Odisha up to 1999. Between 1999 and 2002 he was active in Pampuluru area as ‘area committee Member’ (ACM), and in 2002, he was shifted to East Area Committee in the AOB area. Later, he was promoted to the position of DVCM of Malkangiri East Division in 2008, and taught political classes to the party cadres in the AOB area for more than a decade. He left the party and stayed at the houses of party sympathisers in the AOB area due to age-related illness and various other health issues, Police said.

Muski Budri alias BR (30), a Maoist dalam (armed squad) member, and a native of Rampur village in Usur Tehsil (revenue unit) in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh, surrendered before Bhadrachalam, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), G Vineeth at Cherla Police Station limits on Saturday (August 28) afternoon, Police said. She had earlier worked as a guard in the protection team of the CPI-Maoist Telangana State committee ‘secretary’ Haribhushan alias Yapa Narayana, who died of COVID-19-induced cardiac arrest in Dandakaranya forest region in Bastar division of Chhattisgarh in June this year, the Police added. A total of 52 people, including five women and some minors, who worked as ‘militia members’, ‘village committee members’ of CPI-Maoist party, sympathisers, providing logistics to the Maoist party have turned themselves in, they said adding they were working for the Maoist party since the last one year. Bhadradri-Kothagudem District Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Dutt said, "Recently, these people were forcibly taken by the CPI Maoist party to attend their trainings in Chhattisgarh." According to Police, frustrated with the Maoist ideology and regular harassment by the party to attend its meetings and also being threatened on a regular basis, they have decided to reject the outfit and its ideology and live peacefully. Speaking to the media, Kothagudem Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Dutt said that they were forced to joining the banned outfit by its top leaders. The 14 activists decided to quit the party as they were unable to bear the harassment of the party leadership. Three ‘village committee members’ and two ‘militia members’ of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) surrendered before Superintendent of Police (SP) and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 141 Bn official in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on December 2, reports Telangana Today. SP, Sunil Dutt giving details of Maoist’s surrender said the surrendered Maoists belong to Kondavai village in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub division) in the district, and were identified as Doodhi Ganga, Podium Adamaiah, Muski Kosaiah, Podium Raje and Sodi Gangi. These five Maoists were working as ‘village committee’ and ‘militia members’ for the Cherla Local Organising Squad (LOS) of the CPI-Maoist. Regular community policing in Cherla area yielded positive results as villagers and relatives convinced the Maoist activists to surrender before Police, Dutt said. He also appealed to all dalam (armed squad) members and ‘militia members’ to contact their relatives or Police to surrender and live a better life.
