Security Forces (SFs) arrested two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘militia members’, along with explosive materials from Kurnapalli forest area in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on January 24, reports Telangana Today. Circle Inspector (CI) B. Ashok stated that a search team comprising Cherla Police, Special Party personnel and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)’s 141 Battalion spotted three persons moving suspiciously in the forests. The SFs chased them and took two persons into custody while the third one ran away. The arrested persons were identified as – Kovasi Bhimaiah of Dokupadu in Chhattisgarh and Sodi Deepak of Burugupadu, in Charla Mandal. Both were serving as couriers for CPI-Maoist for the past three years besides being the ‘militia members’ of Cherla Area Committee.

Police arrested seven ‘militia members’ of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), allegedly involved in 18 cases, and recovered explosive materials from their possession during a combing operation in Pamunuru forest area in Mulugu District of Telangana on February 22, reports Telangana Today. The arrestees are identified as – Undam Pandu, MucchakiBheemaiah, SodiLaxmaiah, MadaviAdamaiah, MadaviBudra, MadaviIthaiah, and MadaviKosa. The ‘militia members’ were arrested while they were planting explosives with intention to kill Police personnel in the said area. After seeing the Police, they tried to escape, but Police arrested seven of them, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sangram Singh Patil said adding that Police recovered nine crude land mines besides detonators, electric wires, batteries and other items from two places in the said forest.

Five Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres surrendered before Police at Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on March 2, reports Telangana Today. All were ‘militia’ and ‘village committee members’ of Chennapuram village in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in the District. The Maoists – Kalmu Adama (25), Madivi Adama (41), Madakam Somudu (33), Madakam Deva (22) were the ‘village committee members’ and Madakam Sona (25) was a ‘militia member’. They were working for the CPI-Maoist for the past three years and were involved in cases including triggering of two bomb explosions as well as planting booby traps in the forests of Chennapuram to harm the Police.

Cherla Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) forces jointly arrested one Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) militia member and recovered a pressure cooker bomb and a land mine at Rallavagu forest area in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on April 1, reports The New Indian Express. During combing operations between Battigudem and Rallavagu forest area, the forces came across some persons and asked them to stop. All the persons except one escaped. They also found a pressure cooker bomb and a land mine, which was defused by a bomb squad. On questioning, the arrested man, identified as M Rajanna alias Rajaiah, revealed that about 20 Maoist militia members have been planting pressure cooker bombs and land mines in Rallapuram, Veerapuram and Burgampad areas to target Police forces.

Police arrested four Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) party militia members in the forests of Kurnapalli-Burgupad in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri-Kothagudem District of Telangana on April 12, reports Telangana Today. A statement from the Police said, during combing operations, a few persons were found planting explosive material on a forest track. The Police arrested them and questioned them. The arrested Maoist militia members revealed their identity as Kunjam Sanna, of Basaguda in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh, Sodi Pojje, Vetti Itha and Madivi Raje of Cherla Mandal, and all were working as Maoist militia members for the past one year. Police recovered 10 gelatin sticks, one detonator, cordex wire and other material from their possession. The arrested militia members were also involved in planting explosives on Tegada-Kaliveru road in September last year.

Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres identified as Savalam Pojja alias Bheemaiah (24), Seethaiah alias Mahendar (26) and Jogaiah (28) were arrested by Police during a vehicle checking drive in Manuguru town of Bhadradri Kothagudem District and CPI-Maoist South Bastar ‘tech team commander’ Kurasam Gangaiah alias Aithu, 28 have died of Coronavirus at a hospital in the Bhadradri Kothagudem District in Telangana on May 27, reports The Hindu. The deceased Gangaiah, a resident of Bijapur District in Chhattisgarh was admitted for treatment at a hospital by three arrested CPI-Maoist cadres. The arrested CPI-Maoist cadres Savalam Pojja is a Dalam (armed squad) member of CPI-Maoist Dandakaranya South Bastar supply team and Seethaiah is a CPI-Maoist courier and Jogaiah, CPI-Maoist militia member, both hailing from Chintoor Mandal (administrative sub-division) in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh were arrested when they were heading to Chhattisgarh in a car during a vehicle checking drive. Police recovered explosive materials including ten gelatin sticks, three detonators, four batteries and electric wire bundle from the arrested trio. The arrested persons revealed that several key leaders of the CPI-Maoist and its cadres were suffering from Coronavirus in Dandakaranya forest region. The condition of some of the ailing CPI-Maoist cadres deteriorated following the botched treatment by some cadres in the CPI-Maoist Battalion. Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) militia member identified as Madavi Boodu (40), a resident of Jella village in Venkatapuram Mandal (administrative sub-division) was arrested by Security Forces (SFs) while allegedly attempting to plant explosive material targeting Police in the Pamunuru forest area of Venkatapuram Mandal in Mulugu District of Telangana on May 30, reports The Hindu. During a search operation, a joint squad of Venkatapuram Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel nabbed Boodu after a brief chase, when the latter allegedly tried to flee along with several other militia members on noticing the Police in the Pamunuru forest area on May 30. SFs recovered explosive substances including two pressure cooker bombs, two tiffin box bombs, four detonators, electric wire bundles, batteries and a walkie-talkie from his possession. He was acting on the instructions of CPI-Maoist leaders of Wajedu-Venkatapuram Area Committee to target the combing parties and involved in around 28 cases of CPI-Maoist violence, including the murder of Bheemeshwara Rao at Alubaka in October 2020, and planting of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), landmines and spikes in the forest areas frequented by the combing parties in Venkatapuram and Wajedu Mandals in the past few years, said Mulugu Superintendent of Police (SP), Sangram Singh Patil.

The arrestees were identified as Kikkidi Bheema alias Deggadu alias Degga alias Bheemudu alias Mukkidi Iduma, ‘B section militia commander’ of Pujari Kanker ‘Revolutionary People's Committee’ (RPC) and Daadi Ramesh, militia member, and are both residents of Usoor area in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh. Superintendent of Police (SP), Sangram Singh said, “They assisted Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] in their activities by providing food and shelter and informing them about police party movement in the area. They were given training by the Naxals on how to handle and plant landmines and spikes in order to kill the police party. Thereafter, Naxals regularly provided him with explosive material and accordingly, they planted landmines in several areas near their villages in order to target police personnel and to deter their movement in the area.” The Police seized explosives along with accessories used for making land mines, Cordex wire, two pressure cooker mines, two detonators, electric wire, small batteries with attached wire and 120 small iron pieces from their possession.

Police arrested six militia members of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the forests of Pusuguppa in Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in in Bhadradri-Kothagudem District of Telangana on September 4, reports Telangana Today. Bhadrachalam Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Vineeth G said the arrested militia members were from Rampur village of Usuru block in Chhattisgarh State, and were identified as Kunjam Adama, Madivi Joga, Madivi Bandi, Madivi, Unga, Madakam Sannu and a minor boy. During interrogation, they confessed to having been working for the Maoists for the past three years. They also informed the Police that they have dug about 100 pits and planted iron bars in them in the Pusuguppa forest area in August 2020. Six Communist party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘Jan Militia’ members (people’s army of the Maoists) were arrested by the Police in Mulugu District of Telangana on December 30, reports Telangana Today. The arrestees were identified as Kursam Sarveshwar Rao, Kursam Ramakrishna, Kursam Venkatesh, Kursam Ganapathi, Mede Papa Rao and Kursam Lakshmaiah of Venkatapuram (Nugur) Mandal (administrative sub-division) and the neighbouring villages of Chhattisgarh State. Disclosing the details at a press conference at Eturunagaram in the district on December 31, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Shoban Kumar said that the arrested had been working as militia members of the CPI Maoists party since 2019. “The CRPF police and Venkatapuram police had nabbed the accused while they were planting the landmine on a path between Tippapuram and Pedd Utlapally villages in the forest areas to kill the security forces who have been combing the forests for the Maoists,” he added.
