According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Binay Kamila, the Maoists set ablaze two mobile communication towers at Goudagotha village and another at Barada village, located near Ganjam-Gajapati-Kandhamal border where Maoists are trying to increase their hold. The Maoists also pasted posters asking people to make the bandh a success and to protest anti-Maoist operations. The Maoists also threatened the company officials and staff of the Vedanta Alumina Refinery to immediately give up their jobs and leave the area, adds The Pioneer.

A telephone exchange and a mobile communication tower of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) were set ablaze by a group of around six to seven armed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres at Onakadelli under Macchkund Police Station limits in Koraput District early on March 11, reports The Hindu. According to Police sources the Maoists forced the lone night watchman deployed at the spot to leave the area. The Maoists asked him to escape after shutting off the lights and then set the office ablaze. The Maoists did not trigger any blast at the spot. They only used fire to damage the BSNL properties.

A group of 10 armed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres set ablaze a country liquor manufacturing unit at Jamki village under Tureikela block (administrative division) in Bolangir District late in the night of March 24, reports The Times of India. However, no one has been injured in the incident. Sources said the Maoists held a meeting with villagers before setting the unit on fire. They asked women if the presence of the liquor unit was a cause of disturbance for them. After all the women said they did not want the unit there, the Maoists set ablaze the unit in their presence and fled. The Maoists also reportedly distributed leaflets among the villagers warning them against setting up an unit there in future.

In the wee hours of April 20, cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) attacked a site where works were being undertaken under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) near Pendajam under Semiliguda Police Station limits in Koraput District, reports The Hindu. According to sources, the Maoists set ablaze and damaged two road rollers, one tipper, one excavator and a motorcycle. Earlier in the night, they had blocked several roads connecting Narayanpatna block with the outside world. The roads had not been cleared till evening. The Narayanpatna-Laxmipur road was blocked at several places by the Maoists by felling trees and digging up the road. The Narayanpatna-Bandhugaon-Parvatipuram road was blocked near Bagam square. The Narayanpatna-Podapadar road was blocked near Podapadar. The security forces, fearing an ambush, are treading warily. Local people, afraid of inviting the wrath of the Maoists, are not coming forward to clear road blockades.

Balangir district earns INR 700 million revenue by selling kendu leaves every year. After the third day of arson, the State Government sustained a loss of INR 2.56 million as 17 godowns had already been burnt. Divisional forest officer (DFO) Rohit Singh said in the latest arson, the Police camp was near the godowns. He said the two villages, Beherapani and Turla, where Maoists burnt down the godowns on June 11 are not very remote.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) set ablaze five vehicles, including a JCB proclainer and a tractor, at Nakamamudi village under Chitrakonda Police Station limits in Malkangiri District of Odisha on July 10, reports The Times of India. Forty armed Maoists poured petrol on the vehicles belonging to a Pune-based construction company and set them ablaze. The vehicles were being used in lay a road from Balimela junction to Malkangiri. Before leaving the area, Maoists pasted posters and warned the contractor of dire consequences if the road works were not stalled. No injury or casualty has been reported in the incident, said Police.

Police said over 40 armed Maoists appeared in the village at about 10 pm and went straight to the house of the contractor, Mohd Rice, and ordered him to come out. When Rice refused to comply, they set ablaze his vehicles and left with stern warnings. "They destroyed two vehicles -- Tata winger and a tractor -- by setting fire to them. They stayed in the village for about two hours and threatened Mohd Rice with dire consequences before they left the village," said Padmapur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) N C Dansana. Earlier, the Maoists had killed Rice's brother Mohd Itar Mahamad on March 18, 2012.
