A trooper of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sustained critical injuries in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near Pegdapalli camp under Tarem Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 14, reports The Indian Express. The injured trooper was identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Aslam (51) of the CRPF 153 battalion. Aslam along with his troops was out from the Pegdapalli CRPF camp on a Road Security and Area Domination Operation, when he inadvertently stepped on a pressure IED (victim operated mechanism) planted by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and the blast hit his right leg, which got critically injured. “He was treated at the Basaguda field hospital and later, air evacuated to a better medical facility in Raipur. His condition is stable,” said Sundarraj P, Inspector general of Police (IGP), Bastar range.

A head constable of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was killed after a pressure Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) went off near Batum village under Orchha Police Station limits in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on February 26, reports news18.com. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Hemsagar Sidar said, after receiving information that Maoists have put up banners in the area, a CAF team had launched patrolling from Orchha Police Station, located around 300 kilometres from State capital Raipur, and when the patrolling team was advancing through Batum, head constable Sanjay Lakra, who was a resident of Jashpur District, belonging to CAF’s 16th battalion, inadvertently stepped over a pressure IED connection which triggered the blast, leading to his death.

The Chhattisgarh government will provide additional assistance of INR 2 million to the families of Police personnel killed during encounters with Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] under its new Naxal Eradication Policy approved on March 18, reports The Times of India on March 19. The policy further states that an additional sum of INR 1 million would also be given to the surrendered Naxals carrying a reward of INR 500,000 and more. The policy will now be tabled in the ongoing Vidhan Sabha session and is expected to be implemented in two months. Officials said that the policy was based on the government's Triveni Action Plan of development, trust, and security.

The incident occurred between Hiroli and Kavadgaon villages when personnel belonging to the DRG and Bastar Fighters and the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were on patrol, a Police official said. “While advancing through a dirt track, DRG Head Constable Arvind Ekka inadvertently stepped over the pressure IED, triggering a blast that caused injuries to his leg. He was shifted to Pusnar Unit Hospital, from where he was referred to Bijapur District Hospital. He is being taken to Raipur by helicopter for further treatment,” the official said.
