The Maoists were enforcing a one-day strike on January 18 in their strongholds to protest the arrest of their senior leader Subodhji alias Anand, police said. The strike evoked a mixed response as urban areas remained unaffected but normal life was hit in villages. While the strike call evoked no response in Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur and Purnea, it affected life in Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Arwal and Gaya Districts. As reported earlier Subodhji, Bihar-Jharkhand special area committee member of the CPI-Maoist, was arrested by the Special Task Force and the District Police in Patna on January 15.

Times of India reports that more than 150 armed cadres of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) attacked Phulwaria village in Jamui District late on February 17 and killed 10 villagers. "Bodies of 10 villagers have been found including three with gun injuries and others who died in a bomb blast," Additional Director General of Police U. S. Dutt said. The Maoists also set several houses in the village ablaze and abducted more than half a dozen villagers. Dutt described the incident as revenge killing by Maoists, because the villagers were not supporting the Maoists. Police also suspect the incident was related to the alleged killing of eight Maoists on February 1. A strike was called by Maoists on February 17 in five Districts of the State, including Banka, Bhagalpur, Jamui, Munger and Lakhisarai, to denounce the alleged killing of Maoists by Police with the help of villagers.

With the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) issuing a fresh 48-hour bandh (general shut down) call starting on June 14, railways decided to run trains at 50 kilometres per hour (KMPH) in Maoist-affected areas and alerted its divisions across five States, reported Times of India. Indian Express adds that as per sources in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the 48-hour bandh called by Maoists in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Orissa was primarily prompted by the arrest of Maoist leaders Shambhu (Bihar) and Chandrasekhar Gorebale (Karnataka). Apart from this, say sources, the Maoists had also been rattled by other successes by Security Forces recently, including a raid by the Central reserve Police Force in Gaya (Bihar) jungles yielding a large amount of explosives and the destruction of a Maoist camp near the Jharkhand-Orissa border. The SFs have also arrested several Naxal leaders and activists recently.
