At least two militants and one Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police constable were killed while an Army major and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured during the ongoing encounter between Security Forces (SFs) and militants which started on March 4 evening in Shikargah in Tral in Pulwama District, reports Daily Excelsior on March 5 (today). According to reports, the house where the militants were hiding has been demolished by the SFs. The identity of the militants hasn’t been revealed yet. However, at least two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) terrorists, including the right hand man of slain Hizbul ‘commander’ Burhan Wani, Sabzar Bhat, were believed to be trapped in the encounter, sources said.As the news about the encounter spread in the area, a law and order problem erupted, with civilians pelting stone at the SFs, adds Daily Excelsior. One assailant hit an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and snatched his AK-47 rifle before disappearing into the crowd. A separate operation is on to recover the weapon. A top officer said, “Security forces were stopped by civilians. Resistance was shown. We had to rush in reinforcement. An ASI of CRPF was injured his weapon snatched by (the) belligerent crowd.”

Two militants were killed in a fierce gun battle broke out between Security Forces (SFs) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants in Padgampora area of Pulwama District on March 9 (today) morning, reports The Times of India. "The slain militants have been identified as Jehangir Ganai and Mohammad Shafi alias Sher Gujri," a senior CRPF officer said, adding that Ganai was involved in the killing of a local Policeman last year (2016). SFs from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police have started search operations and cordoned off the area where two-three militants of the group were holed up even. Army was deployed to carry out combing operationsMeanwhile, locals hit the streets and started pelting stones on SFs near the encounter site, adds Daily Excelsior. Additional SFs have been rushed to the area, where locals are pelting stones to disrupt the operation. Sources said there could be two to three militants in the area. SFs have sealed all roads leading to the village, including from Awantipora to prevent people from moving towards the encounter site

According to reports, the area has been cordoned off by defence personnel as the militants have fled from the spot. This comes two days after a clash between the militants and SFs in north Kashmir’s Kupwara District had killed three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants and a minor girl.

Two militants of the HizbulMujahideen (HM) were killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in Awantipora area of Pulwama District on March 26, after they fired at the vehicle of a Police officer, reports Daily Excelsior. A Police officer said that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Pulwama, Chandan Kohli, was on his way from Pulwama to Anantnag in a car along with two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) when a group of militants coming from opposite directions in another car fired at the bullet proof vehicle of the ASP near Padgampora village leading to an exchange of fire in which two militants were killed on the spot while two of the militants fled from the spot leaving behind the car. The slain militants have been identified as Shahbaz Shafi Wani alias Rayees Kachroo, resident of Beloo Rajpora of Pulwama and Farooq Ahmad Hurrah, resident of Nazneenpora of Shopian. “Both of them belonged to Hizb ul Mujahideen. The dead bodies have been handed over to the legal heirs for last rites”, the Police officer said. One AK rifle, one SelfLoading Rifle (SLR), one AK magazine, 2 SLR Magazines, 2 pouches and a grenade was recovered from the spot. The car in which militants were travelling was also seized by the Police. Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Kashmir, SMJ Gillani said, “An AK47 rifle and one SLR were recovered from them. Interestingly, the SLR weapon was snatched from a minority picket in the month of October”.

Search operation launched by the Security Forces (SFs) on May 23 in south Kashmir ended early this morning (May 24) as militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness, official sources said in Srinagar, reports Daily Excelsior. They said with the first light this morning, the SFs resumed search operation in village Hakripora Kakpora in Pulwama District. However, the operation was called off at 05.30 am as the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness.The operation was launched on May 23th night following a tip-off about the presence of three militants including top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) ‘commander’ in the village. There was a brief encounter between the militants hiding in the village and SFs. However, the operation was stopped due to darkness to avoid any casualty, the sources said. SFs had sealed the entire area after reinforcement was rushed there from nearby camps. However, the militants managed to escape. No arrests were made, they added.

The militants tried to escape from the cordoned off area, they said adding one militant was killed before two other militants managed to enter a nearby house. Sources said that LeT ‘divisional commander’, Abu Dujana, who is the most wanted militant in Kashmir valley slipped out of Police dragnet this evening (July 19) in Pulwama District of South Kashmir by firing at a vehicle in which Police was chasing him. Sources said that Abu Dujana was on his way from Tral to Pulwama and Police in civvies was following him in a civil car. They said that at Banderpora village, Abu Dujana got suspicious of a Bolero car that was chasing him. He fired at the tyre of the car before abandoning the Sumo in which he was travelling and also fired at the tyre of an Army vehicle that had laid ambush against him in the village. Police and Army also fired at him several rounds but he managed to slip out of their dragnet. Security Forces (SFs) cordoned off Tahab village in Pulwama District after inputs that two militants are hiding in the village. As the SFs laid siege to the village, the militants hiding tried to flee and fired at the SFs, triggering a brief gunfight in which two militants were killed. Soon after the news of the killing of militants spread in the area, the area observed shut down and protests broke out. People tried to reach to the encounter site and pelted stones on SFs who retaliated with aerial firing and tear smoke. Pulwama District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is about 35 Kilometers south of Srinagar. Police sources said that some militants on “suicidal mission” entered Police family quarters inside DPL Pulwama at around 4 am. They said that the Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), CRPF and Army started clearing the quarters by evacuating families of security personnel. “In the process, we suffered some casualties. Unfortunately our four CRPF men and 4 police personnel were martyred and we have searched two blocks so far and two dead bodies of two terrorist were recovered. They have not been identified yet and they look foreign terrorists,” Police sources said. Later, SFs shot dead third militant who was trapped in third residential block. Army’s 50 Rashtriya Rifles, Special operations Group (SOG) and Central reserve Police Force (CRPF) acting on a tip about presence of four militants in village Samboora, Pampore cordoned it and as Security Forces (SFs) were conducting searches and fired some warning shots towards a suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire on troops, triggering an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, a militant was killed and he has been identified as Waqas Ahmad. Three soldiers were also injured in the gun battle and two of them later succumbed to injuries. The other three militants managed to flee from the village under the cover of darkness. Noor Muhammad Tantray, was on the wanted list of the Indian Army. Acting on a tip-off, a crack team of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off a house where two JeM militants were believed to be holed up, the Police said. Tantray was the ‘divisional commander’ of the militant group and was reportedly behind the recent attack by the JeM in Kashmir. He was lodged in Tihar jail and then later released on parole.According to reports, Noor Mohammad Tantray had taken over command of the JeM in South Kashmir in October 2017 and was engineering the outfit’s bid to regroup in the Valley. He was arrested in Delhi in 2003 and sentenced to life by a POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2002) court in 2011 but had jumped parole a few months ago and rejoined militancy. In January 2011, Tantray and four others, including two from Kashmir, were sentenced to life imprisonment by a POTA court in Delhi. After being lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail for some time, he was shifted to Srinagar. Tantray was released on parole in 2015, after which the Jammu and Kashmir High Court extended his parole several times. Tantray’s death is seen as a big blow to the militant outfit as he was the key man in reviving JeM in south and central Kashmir.
