On January 9, Police arrested a Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militant while photocopying a leaflet at Sardarpara in Jamalpur town, reports Daily Star. The militant, identified as Moazzem Hossain Mollah of Ghatbila village in Mollarhat sub-district in the Bagerhat district was subsequently produced before a court in Jamalpur which placed him on a 10-day remand on January 10. Police sources said that the leaflet contained 'motivational speeches' of executed JMB leaders Shaikh Abdur Rahman, Ataur Rahman Sunny and Abdul Awal. Following Moazzem's preliminary confession, police raided his rented house at Adipaita village in Melandaha sub-district in the district on the same night and recovered some more leaflets.

Six home-made guns, one revolver, 108 live cartridges and bullets and three sacks of arms making materials were recovered from the factory. On February 23, a suspected Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) cadre was arrested in Tangail by the police in Barisal, reports Daily Star. The arrested militant, identified as Habibur Rahman Habib, is the son of Shajahan Miah of Habla village. Police claimed that Habib is the second-in-command of JMB's Tangail district unit and also the cousin of absconding JMB commander Younus Miah, who has been sentenced to death in the Netrokona bomb blast case recently. Habib is also an accused in two cases filed with the Paltan police station in Dhaka and Tangail police station in connection with August 17 bomb blasts in 2005.

The arrested have been identified as Nashirul Haque Bintu and Hafizur Rahman Raju. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel on April 26 arrested five suspected Islamist militants in connection with the Brahmanbaria bomb blast on April 13, reports Daily Star. The militants were identified as Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, Mohammed Saiful Islam, Mohammed Shamsul Islam, Mohammed Jamaluddin and Tajul Islam Al Mahmud alias Baba Tajul. An explosive, five electronic detonators and some Islamic books were also recovered from the arrestees. RAB sources said that it is yet to be ascertained whether the arrested, including a retired lance corporal of Bangladesh Army and the prime suspect of the case Mohammed Shamsul Islam, have any connection with any militant outfit.

Police arrested 13 militants belonging to banned Islamist outfit Allah'r Dal as the militants gathered for a meeting in a house at Nayansukh village in the Sundarganj sub-district. Sundarganj Police, informed by locals, arrested the militants by raiding Allah'r Dal activist Mainuddin's house. The arrestees were identified as Liton Mia, regional leader of the outfit, Mozammel, Rabinoor, Ayub Ali, Hazarat Ali, Hossain Ali, Mahbubur Rahman, Abdul Khaleque, Hafizur Rahman, Raju Mia, Angur Ali, Kawsar Ali and Mainuddin. All the13 arrestees confessed to the Police that they are activists of Allah'r Dal led by Matin Mehdi. Matin Mehdi was arrested in 2006 from Kurigram and sentenced to death and rigorous imprisonment in several cases filed against him in different districts including Gaibandha, Jhenidah and Sirajganj. Police said the followers of Allah'r Dal under regional leader Liton Mia's leadership assembled in the house of Mainuddin for a routine weekly meeting. Alarmed by the activists' frequent suspicious activities under the guise of discussing the teachings of Islam, the locals informed the police of the possible militant gathering at Moyenuddin's house. During the raid the police seized donation receipts of the banned organisation and various other documents corroborating militant activities from Liton Mia's possession.

Around 3000 leaflets were recovered from them. The detained were identified as Solaiman Kabir, Syed Ahmed Kabir, Abu Bakar Siddique, Nazmul Haque Rana, Abul Bashar, Khaled Saifullah Mamun, Habibur Rahman and Abu Hanif. The RAB personnel also recovered 40 kilograms of nitric acid, 150 cases of improvised grenades, a large quantity of bomb-making materials and equipment, and over 2,000 books on jihad (holy war) from two houses in Mirpur and Shanir Akhra in the capital. The Security Force personnel arrested five United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) activists in charge of conducting campaigning for casting 'no vote' from two separate places in the Rangamati District of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) area on December 21 and 22, according to Daily Star. They were, identified as Lotaram Chakma, Subhas Chakma and Smritibindu Chakma from Jurachhari upazila (sub-District) headquarters, Kajolmoy Tangchangya, and Jyoti Bikash Chakma from Rangamati District town. They were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on December 22. Responding to the arrest of UPDF members, District Election Officer Syed Mohammed Amirul Islam said, "I don't know why they have been arrested and about the violation of election code of conduct. I am only assisting the returning officer to hold the election here." The Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati and Returning Officer, Mohammed Nurul Amin, also said he had no knowledge of such arrests.

Police said they had carried out raids on December 24 and 25 in the northern Gaibandha area, about 300km north of capital Dhaka.
