The Ministry of Public Health in the evening of August 15 confirmed the death toll had risen to 48 in suicide bombing inside a classroom at Mawoud Academy, an education academy, in Dasht-e-Barchi in PD18 [Police District 18] area of Kabul District, reports Tolo News. The explosion happened at about 4.10pm [AST], on August 15, while students were in class. At least 67 people were also wounded. Mawoud Academy is a private education facility that provides tertiary education programs to students wanting to go to university. The academy is known for providing a high standard of education. This academy's classes are mixed, with both girls and boys attending. About 100 students were believed to have been in the classroom at the time of the explosion.

At least 30 civilians were killed when two suicide bombers entered Sahib-ul-Zaman Mosque in Khwaja Hassan area in PD2 of Gardez District on August 3, reports Bhaktar News. The militants initially opened fire on worshippers before detonating their suicide vests. Interior Ministry’s deputy spokesman Nusrat Rahimi said 20 of those wounded are in critical condition and that the death toll may rise. President Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the incident. “Such criminal acts of terrorists among our people cannot create religious divisions, because Afghanistan is exemplary in Islamic unity and religious affiliation in the Islamic countries, and this will remain unchanged forever,” Ghani said in the statement. No individual or group has commented regarding the incident so far.

The incident took place in the vicinity of the 1st police district of the city after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives near a military compound which was previously used by the Afghan National Army. Provincial Governor’s spokesman, Jilani Farhad, confirmed that two children were killed and 10 other civilians were wounded in the attack.
