On June 20, three militants belonging to Naga National Council (NNC)/ Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) and Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Reformation (NSCN-R) were arrested on multiple charges of kidnapping and robbery from Dimapur District in Nagaland, reports Morung Express. According to Police sources, Leacy Gihuka Jakhalu of NNC/FGN, ‘second lieutenant’ Khetoka Chophy and ‘captain’ Tokato Awomi of NSCN-R were operating for the past two months targeting labourers at construction sites at Purana Bazaar, Nagarjan and 2 ½ Mile and abducting them for ransom. Three cars along with one motorbike were recovered from the arrested trio.
Later, on June 21, an unauthorized mobile camp operated by NSCN (R) in Padumpukhuri area of Dimapur District for violation of Cease fire ground rules was sealed, reports Morung Express. According to official statement, the camp was linked to the arrested trio militants. However, this was refuted by NSCN-R which in a press release on June 22, clarified, “it is in no way a camp/office but a rented house of some NSCN (R) members residing with their families”.
