The National Resistance Front (NRF) stated on X that three Taliban fighters were killed and two others were injured when NRF attacked the entrance gate of the Kabul military airport, located adjacent to the Taliban's Ministry of Interior, in Kabul Province on July 1. Additionally, a vehicle belonging to the Taliban was destroyed.
On July 1, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid expressed appreciation to several countries, including Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, the United States (US), and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), for their participation in the Doha meeting on Afghanistan, reports Islamic Republic News Agency. Mujahid said on X, “Today's meeting is progressing very well, with most countries expressing support for Afghanistan’s private sector. It was pledged that restrictions on banking and economic avenues should be lifted”.
Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres abducted a Policeman's brother and killed him, claiming he was a ‘police informer’ in Narayanpur District in the Bastar division of Chhattisgarh on June 30, reports The Week. The body of Sannu Usendi (30) was found at Batumpara Chowk in Orchha village of the district, a Police official said, adding that he was the brother of a constable of Bastar Fighters, a unit of the state Police. As per preliminary information, Maoists abducted Usendi from a local market in Kutul village, around 40 kilometres from the Narayanpur district headquarters and close to his paternal place, Kohakmeta, when he went there on June 28, the official said.
Four cadres of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), identified as identified as Bitan Lohra, Lakhan Lohra, Guddu alias Machindra Lohra, and Birendra Singh, were arrested with arms and ammunition during a vehicle checking drive under the Chipadohar Police Station area in the Latehar District of Jharkhand on July 1, reports The Week. Barwadih Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Venkatesh Prasad said that the Maoists were engaged in extortion. Police seized two country-made pistols, eight cartridges, a mobile phone, and three motorcycles from their possession. JJMP is a splinter group of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist).
On July 2, Director General of Police (DGP) stated on X that Police arrested Lakhwinder alias Lakha along with five kilograms of heroin for engaging in narco trafficking and being in touch with a Pakistan-based narco smuggler in Khemkaran area in Tarn Taran District of Punjab. Drones were used to transport drugs from Pakistan.

On July 2, National Investigation Agency (NIA) issued a public notice announcing a cash reward of INR 10,00,00, on Canada-based terrorist and associate of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) Goldy Brar, a key suspect in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, reports The Tribune. NIA urged anyone with information leading to the apprehension or arrest of Goldy Brar to come forward. The identity of informants will be kept confidential.
On July 1, two judicial tribunals, presided over by Justice Sachin Datta of the Delhi High Court, upheld the Indian government's decision to designate two Jammu and Kashmir-based pro-Pakistan groups, including Tehreek-e-Hurriyat led (TeH) by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, and Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction) (MLJK-MA) as banned organisations, reports Daily Excelsior. Earlier, the confirmation of the ban on Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) was issued on June 22, 2024. Separately, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA) announced the outlawing of Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction) on December 27, 2023, with the tribunal convened on January 15, 2024, also confirming the ban on June 22, 2024.
Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain said on July 1 that the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita provides a clear Legal Mandate to tackle cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), reports Daily Excelsior. He stated, “We are deeply aware that the responsibility now lies with us to ensure these reforms achieve their full potential. It casts an onerous responsibility on the J&K Police, which have been fighting terrorism for the last 35 years, depleting our core investigative foundation…The new laws demand more from our existing resources, requiring the strengthening of our verticals, primarily through embedding Law Officers in our core investigative framework. We have requested the Home Department to strengthen us with 321 Law Officers at various levels”. He stressed the importance of maintaining public peace and security to enable effective law enforcement and outlined measures such as enhanced training for investigating officers and the deployment of CCTV technology for real-time monitoring.
On June 30, following a meeting between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and the Communist Party of Nepal Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML) Chair Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, the CPN-UML, the second largest party, decided to sever its political ties with Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) government and form an alliance with the Nepali Congress, the largest party, reports The Kathmandu Post.As per the understanding between the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, Oli will lead a new 'national consensus' government for a year and a half, with Deuba assuming for the remaining term.
Security Forces (SFs) gunned down seven Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Tirah area of Khyber District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on July 1, reports ARY News. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement said SFs conducted an IBO on the reported presence of terrorists in the Tirah area and killed seven terrorists including two wanted terrorists. The wanted terrorists were identified as Najeeb alias Abdur Rehman and Ashfaq alias Muavia, the statement read. “The killed terrorists remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces. Weapons, ammunition, and explosives were also recovered from killed terrorists,” the ISPR added.
Two terrorists were gunned down during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Lakki Marwat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on July 1, reports ARY News. “Sanitisation of the areas is being conducted to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area as the Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said.
A traffic Policeman, identified as Muhammad Tahir, was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Kabootar Chowk on Ring Road in Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on July 1, reports ARY News. According to Police, Muhammad Tahir was targeted when he was returning to his home after ending his duty.
Three persons, including a woman and a child were killed and another person injured when unidentified assailants attacked on a house in Turbat of Kech District in Balochistan on July 1, reports The Balochistan Post. The attack involved both gunfire and a bomb explosion. "Three people, including a woman and a child, were killed, and one person was injured in the attack," Levies officials said.
Three explosions and gunfire were reported in the Soro area of Mand town in Kech District of Balochistan, targeting a military camp on June 29-night, reports The Balochistan Post. The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for the attack. Major Gorham Baloch, ‘spokesperson’ for the BLF, stated that BLF ‘Sarmachars’ (fighters) attacked the Pakistani military camp in Mand Soro at 9 PM, using heavy and modern weapons. “The enemy forces suffered both human and material losses in the attack,” he said. Major Baloch added that the BLF would continue its attacks on what it calls “occupying forces” until Balochistan is liberated.
On June 30-night, an explosion severely damaged a gas pipeline in the Kohbash area of Bolan District in Balochistan, reports The Balochistan Post. Unidentified assailants used explosives to target the 24-inch diameter pipeline. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the pipeline explosion.
Unidentified assailants targeted a vehicle carrying rations for Security Forces (SFs) in the Samsuri Kaur area of Buleda in Kech District of Balochistan on June 30, reports The Balochistan Post. The attackers forcibly stopped the vehicle and opened fire, bursting its tires. The civilian driver, a resident of Sindh, was released unharmed. Though, no group has claimed responsibility for this attack, but the incident appears to be part of a recent surge in attacks by Baloch insurgent groups against military logistics operations.
Security Forces (SFs) allegedly forcibly disappeared a Baloch youth, identified as Muhammad Arif son of Pir Bakhsh, from Apsar area of Turbat in Kech District of Balochistan on June 28, reports The Balochistan Post.
A total of 197 missing persons cases were submitted to the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (COIOED) in the first half of the year, according to a report released on July 1, reports Dawn. The commission was set up in 2011 to trace the missing persons and fix responsibility on the individuals or organisations responsible. The report showed that 226 cases were disposed of in the first six months of 2023. The commission said that the total number of cases received up till June 30 was 10,285 while 8,015 cases were disposed of with a total of 6,464 people traced so far and 1,551 cases disposed of. The report added that 2,270 cases were left while 4,514 were returned home, 1,002 were present in internment centres, 671 were in prisons and 277 found dead. It said 47 cases were received in June and 28 were disposed of with 13 of them unrelated to enforced disappearances, nine returned to their homes, three were confined in internment centres, two were confined in jails and one person’s dead body was found.
During the second quarter of 2024, the country witnessed 380 violence-linked fatalities and 220 injuries among civilians, security personnel, and outlaws, resulting from as many as 240 incidents of terror attacks and counter-terror operations, Dawn reported on July 1 quoting the report released by Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS). Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces were the epicentres of violence, accounting for nearly 92pc of all fatalities and 87pc of attacks (including incidents of terrorism and operations) during this period. The report claimed that the violence and casualty rates across the country plummeted in the second quarter and the country experienced a 12pc reduction in overall violence, with 380 fatalities recorded compared to 432 in the first quarter. The most notable improvement was seen in Balochistan, where violence decreased by 46pc, with fatalities falling from 178 in the first quarter to 96 in the second quarter of this year. However, Punjab and KP experienced a surge in violence, with an increase of 13 and 31 fatalities, respectively, compared to the previous quarter. The report said that civilians, Government officials, and security personnel suffered 62pc of all fatalities, significantly higher than the 38pc fatal losses among outlaws. Among the civilian fatalities, there were 24 workers who were targeted in Balochistan and KP due to their ethnic identities in addition to four coal miners and two polio workers. As many as 11 people lost their lives due to sectarian violence. Police and Army personnel became frequent targets of terrorist attacks. There were two DSPs among the police officials who lost their lives while 31 cops were also victims of violence. Nearly 65 soldiers including an army captain lost their lives while a former brigadier, Ameer Hamza, also got fatally ambushed by unidentified attackers.
A total of 124 terrorists were killed and 322 were arrested in the first six months of the year 2024 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), ARY News reported on June 30 quoting Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) report. The CTD released the details of operations in KP this year according to which a total of 1,433 operations were conducted and thwarted 55 terrorist attacks, 124 terrorists were killed while 322 were arrested. The CTD report stated that Peshawar was saved from a major attack by arresting two suicide bombers. The commanders and associates of terrorists groups, identified as Mohsin Qadir, Betni Padakye, Tipu Gul, Zarar Group, Sunta, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Gandapur Group were killed during the operations. Apart from this, 14 suspects involved in the smuggling of explosives were also arrested. According to the CTD officials, the authorities also fixed bounty on the heads of 18 most wanted terrorists out of which eight of them were killed while 10 were arrested. The report also disclosed that 118 Police personnel were targeted in 273 terrorist attacks.
