National Resistance Front (NRF) announced on the social media platform ‘X’ (Twitter) that two Taliban fighters were killed and another was injured in their attack in the 12th Police District (PD) in Herat City of Herat Province on May 23.

On May 23, two cadres of Kuki-Chin National Front (KCNF), identified as Lal Nu Bom and Bhan Thang Pui Bom, were killed in a gunfight with the Security Forces (SFs) in Sharonpara area in Ward No. 6 in Suyalok Union Parishad in Sadar Upazila (Sub-District) in Bandarban District of Chittagong Division, reports Dhaka Tribune.
On May 23, a top operative of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), identified as Abdullah, was arrested in the extended part of Camp No. 20 in Ukhiya Upazila (Sub-District) in Cox’s Bazar District of Chittagong Division, reports Dhaka Tribune. Following his interrogation, a raid resulted in the recovery of a large single-shot rifle, two medium-sized single-shot rifles, 20 rounds of rifle bullets, one shotgun cartridge, 20 rifle casings, and three pistol casings.
One more Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in a forest along the Narayanpur-Bijapur in the jurisdiction of Barsur Police Station limits in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on May 23, reports ommcomnews.com. Security personnel were returning to their base after yesterday’s encounter when Maoists opened fire at the patrolling team of the Special Task Force (STF). The SFs too retaliated, in which one rebel was killed. During the return of the Police team, the Maoists planted a 15-kilogramme Improvised Explosive Device (IED) with the aim of causing harm to the SFs, which was safely destroyed on the spot by the SFs. A huge cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives was also recovered. The identity of the slain Maoists is yet to be ascertained.
Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including a woman, surrendered before Police in Dantewada District in the Bastar division of Chhattisgarh on May 24, under the Police’s Lon Varratu (return to home) campaign, reports The Times of India. The surrendered cadres were mainly involved in digging up roads, hanging Naxal [Left Wing extremism, LWE] banners and posters, and organizing meetings for senior cadres. The three were identified as Handa Mandavi, medical team ‘commander’ and Nilawaya Jantana Sarkar member; Shashi Madkam, Burgum ‘militia’ (people’s army of the Maoists) member; and Bandi Podiyam, Burgum Chetna Natya Manch (CNM) member. Over 805, including 180 rewarded Maoists, have surrendered under the Lon Varratu campaign till date, joining mainstream life.
On May 24, a 60-year-old man was shot and injured by cadres of People’s Liberation Army (PLA)at the Imphal River bank near Wangoo Village in Bishnupur District of Manipur, for raping and impregnating a mentally disabled girl, reports Northeast Now. The PLA ‘spokesperson’ further announced that the accused has been ostracized from his village for five years.
On May 24, National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested the fifth accused, identified as Shoaib Ahmed Mirza alias Chhotu, from an unspecified location, in connection to the Rameshwaram café blast case, of Bengaluru in Karnataka, reports NIA. He is a resident of Hubbali District of Karnataka. The accused was an ex-convict of Lashkar-e- Toiba (LeT) Bengaluru conspiracy case and was released from jail in 2018. The accused conspired the terror activity along with Abdul Matheen Taha by introducing him to an unidentified online handler. He also disclosed an e-mail ID for encrypted communication between the online handler and Adbul Matheen Taha. Earlier, NIA arrested Adbul Matheen Taha and Mussavir Hussain Shazid in the case on April 12, 2024, from Kolkata (West Bengal).

The outfit stated that the decision was taken by the group from a desire for peace, prosperity, and development rather than any weakness.A statement signed by ‘chairman’ Ang Mai, ‘vice-chairman’ Nyeiton Konyak and ‘general secretary’ Kughalu Mulatonu said, “To ensure peace, prosperity, and development in the entire Naga inhabited areas, peace with India and Myanmar will be initiated formally.”The statement stated that the political dialogue with India will only focus on sovereignty or arrangements beyond the Indian Constitution. It further added, “In case of a temporary arrangement, it will be above the Framework and Agreed Position.”
A person, identified as Qari Inayatullah, was shot dead when militants opened fire at him in Goharabad area of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on May 24, reports The Khorasan Diary. Qari Inayatullah was a local cleric. Islamic State Pakistan Province (ISPP) claimed the responsibility of the attack, claiming he was an informer.
A bullet-riddled body of a 25-year-old young man, identified as Muhammad Faheem, son of Kamal Khan, was discovered in Daak Hazar Juft area of Nushki District in Balochistan on May 23, reports The Balochistan Post. Muhammad Faheem left home for going to picnic on May 22, found dead in the Daak Hazar Juft area a day later. However, the motive behind the incident remains unknown.
A religious scholar, Maulvi Ihsanullah was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Shah Alam village of Tank District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on May 24, reports The Khorasan Diary. Locals from the areas said that he was receiving threats from militants who accused him of being an informer.
The staff of a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Best-Pak was taken hostage by unidentified gunmen in the Draban area of Dera Ismail Khan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on May 24, reports The Khorasan Diary. The local staff of the NGO was released later on, however; one person was kidnapped. The NGO was working on a survey for damaged houses due to the floods.
Journalist Nasrullah Gadani, who was injured in gun attack by unidentified assailants in Mirpur Mathelo tehsil (revenue unit) of Ghotki District in Sindh on May 21, succumbed to his injuries on May 24, reports Geo TV. The journalist Nasrullah Gadani, who was associated with a Sindhi newspaper, had suffered serious butter injuries when he was going from his home to Mirpur Mathelo Press Club.
Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani on May 24 ordered the live streaming of all missing persons cases to “facilitate public awareness and understanding of important legal issues”, reports Dawn. The development came as Justice Kayani resumed hearing a petition seeking the recovery of missing Kashmiri poet Ahmed Farhad Shah. Justice Kayani also summoned the sector commanders of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI), the director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and the defence, law and interior secretaries in the next hearing on May 29.
