The seminar was held with the objective of examining the lessons of peace in Mizoram, and their potential for replication in other northeastern states. It assessed the contemporary undercurrents of instability, patterns of political activity and discourse, and the potential for violence within the State. Spread over two days, the seminar analysed the challenges of development in the State. Possibilities of an economic resurgence and the potential for benefits to ‘trickle down’ to the grassroots level came for close scrutiny in the context of assessing the present policies of the State government.
The seminar was inaugurated by HE A R Kohli, Governor of Mizoram. It brought together bureaucrats, security officials, academicians, politicians, researchers, NGO activists and journalists. Seven research papers were presented on various aspects of the State’s peace and development during the course of the seminar. The valedictory address was delivered by Mr. H V Lalringa, Chief Secretary, Government of Mizoram.
