Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) using Dvora fast attack craft foiled an attempt by Sea Tigers (cadres of the sea wing of the LTTE) to carry out an attack on the SLN personnel in the seas off Kallarawa in the Trincomalee district on July 7. According to sources, a flotilla of about 15-20 Sea Tiger boats approaching from Nayaru area was observed and confronted by the sailors forcing the LTTE boats to flee towards north. Simultaneously, SLN personnel repulsed a ground attack launched by the LTTE cadres from a nearby location. One civilian sustained injuries due to indiscriminate fire directed by the withdrawing LTTE cadres. It is believed that the LTTE suffered major casualties in retaliation by the Navy.
