Four Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were sentenced to life imprisonment by a special court in Bastar District of Chhattisgarh over the killings of 15 security personnel in a deadly attack carried out in 2014 in Tahakwada village, reports Hindustan Times on February 12. A special prosecutor said the case probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) found that three of the convicts—Kawasi Joga, Mahadev Nag, and Mani Ram Madiya—were residents of Bastar, while the fourth convict, Dayaram Baghel, was a resident of neighbouring Sukma district. They were convicted under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act, and the Arms Act by the special judge, D. R. Dewangan. On March 11, 2014, a joint team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and state Police encountered an armed Maoist attack near Tahakwada village that falls under Tongpal Police Station in Sukma district. The Maoist ambush resulted in the deaths of 15 security personnel, including eleven CRPF personnel, four state Police officers, and one civilian. A first information report (FIR) was registered against prominent leaders of the CPI-Maoist organisation, including Sonadhar, Shankar, Ganesh Uike, Vinod, Sumitra, and approximately 150–200 other active cadres.

Following an encounter, Security Forces (SFs) recovered eight Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres near a newly-set-up camp in Gundem village under Tarrem Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on February 14, reports devdiscourse.com. The camp of SFs was established on February 13 in Gundem village under Tarrem Police Station limits, and the explosives were recovered the next day (Wednesday, February 14) when security personnel were carrying out a de-mining exercise in an adjoining forest to trace IEDs, a senior official said, adding, ''The IEDs, packed in steel boxes, were found placed beneath the earth in forests to target security personnel during their patrolling in the area.'' The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of the Bijapur Police neutralised the bombs, he added. On Tuesday, when the camp was being set up, some Maoists opened fire on security personnel who were engaged in cordoning off the area, triggering a gunbattle, he said. After a brief exchange of fire, the Maoists escaped, taking cover of a forested hill, he added. SFs also dismantled a Maoist memorial in Gundem, the official said.

Eight Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including three women, were arrested in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on February 15, hours after a new Police camp in Gundam under the Tarrem Police Station area was attacked with a country-made UBGL (under barrel grenade launcher), reports etvbharat.com. Following the attack, an encounter took place between the Maoists and the Security Forces (SFs). In a search operation launched by the SFs, six Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bombs weighing five kilogrammes each were recovered. Bastar Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sunderraj P said, "New police camps are being set up in the core areas, resulting in Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] being in panic." Acting on a tip-off about Maoists returning in a tractor after celebrating Bhumkal Diwas in Peediya and Hallur, an operation was launched. After seeing Police, people riding a tractor near Matwada High School in the Jangla Police Station area jumped off the vehicle and tried to run away. However, the Police managed to arrest eight suspected Maoists, including three women. The arrested Maoists are said to be members of the Bhairamgarh Area Committee. A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camp on the Bijapur-Dantewada border in Chhattisgarh was busted by Security Forces (SFs) following two encounters with the Maoists, reports NDTV on February 22. The operation was part of an anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation launched by a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Bijapur and Dantewada, the Special Task Force (STF), and the 202nd battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF’s) elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) on February 20, an official said. The operation was launched following a tip-off about the presence of 70–80 Maoists of the 'Gangalur area committee' of the outlawed CPI-Maoist in the hills of Pidiya and Itawar villages on the Bijapur–Dantewada border, said Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Kumar Yadav. "Sensing the presence of the patrolling team, the Maoists opened indiscriminate fire near Itawar village on Wednesday [February 21]. They fled after security forces retaliated. Another gun battle took place near the jungle of Lendra-Korcholi villages when the security forces were returning," the SP said. He said a Maoist camp was busted, and items like uniforms, a solar plate, medicines, etc. were recovered. Blood stains at the spot suggest some Maoists were injured in the gun battle, but it seems their colleagues managed to take them away from the area, he added. Earlier, SATP had reported that an encounter took place between the SFs and the CPI-Maoist cadres in the forest of Pedia Hitwar in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on February 20.

Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were gunned down in an encounter in Hurtarai forests near Domaharra village in the Koyalibeda region in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh on February 25, reports The Times of India. Police sources said security forces had gone after Maoist ‘commander’ Raju Salam, head of 'military company No.5', who operates in Koyalibeda. Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) Indira Kalyan Elesela said a joint team of 175 personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF) went on the operation. After coming under attack, the Security Forces (SFs) retaliated with firing, killing at least three Maoists. The Maoists broke off and fled after a long gunfight. While combing the battleground, the forces found three dead Maoists and three guns, the SP said, adding that the "number of Maoist deaths may increase." "Unless the body of Raju Salam is recovered, we consider him alive," the SP said. The three dead Maoists are from Salam's unit, and their identities are yet to be ascertained. “The identification process is going on, and as per primary information, they were the members of Military Company -5 of Maad Area belonging to the Communist Party of India (Maoist),” said the SP.
